Scorpion is a clinical-stage, precision oncology company developing transformational targeted therapies for patients with cancer. We have built proprietary and fully-integrated discovery capabilities leveraging the most advanced technologies across cancer biology, medicinal chemistry and data sciences. Our current pipeline, led by our mutant-selective PI3Ka program STX-478, consists of three internally discovered clinical product candidates in addition to multiple discovery-stage programs. Our focus is on solving current gaps in therapeutic options for patients with cancer by discovering and developing exquisitely-selective product candidates against well-validated, previously undruggable argets to improve patient outcomes.
Job Summary:
Scorpion Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate I or II to join our Chemical Proteomics team. The successful candidate will contribute to drug discovery programs focused on novel cancer therapeutics. As a member of the Chemical Proteomics team, you will be responsible for assisting in the design and execution of experiments to (a) elucidate drug mechanisms of action and target validation, (b) optimize and perform hit finding campaigns and (c) validate and characterize hits, utilizing state-of-the-art chemical biology tools. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment at the intersection of chemistry and biology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Execution of Experiments: Apply chemical biology techniques (g., covalent probe profiling, high throughput recombinant protein biophysical screening, peptide sample preparation for activity-based protein profiling and other advanced chemical proteomic approaches) to identify and validate potential therapeutic targets, optimize and perform hit finding campaigns, and validate and characterize hits.
- Collaborative Research: Work closely with cross-functional teams including medicinal chemistry, biology, pharmacology, and data science to drive drug discovery projects forward.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and present findings at internal meetings. Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records as well as up-to-date electronic notebooks.
- Lab Operations: Contribute to the day-to-day operations of the chemical biology group, including reagent, equipment maintenance, LC-MS/MS reagent preparation, assisting in cell culture maintenance, and inventory management.
Skills and Competencies:
- Hands-on experience with biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology techniques (e.g., Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, assay sample preparation & mass spectrometry-based proteomics)
- Familiarity with cell culture, high-throughput screening methods and laboratory automation is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
- Excellent communication, record-keeping, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team environment.
Qualifications:
- B.S./M.S. degree in Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Proteomics, or a related field
- Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant lab and research experience in academia or industry
- Experience with biochemical, biophysical, and/or cell-based assays is required.
- An understanding of protein chemistry or proteomic sample preparation is a plus.
