For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Mining Engineering who has experience working with data. Reporting to Teck’s Operating Systems Lead, the Reporting & Analytics Co-op, Operating System is a frontline change agent for Operational Excellence Team’s clients. Primarily responsible for the supporting the implementation of the Management Operating System at Teck to improve our operational performance. The successful candidate will have the chance to cooperate with senior leaders across the company, and work with OEMs, experts in our corporate and operations groups. Experience in this role will set you up for success for future opportunities within the company. Success will require a blend of analytical and interpersonal skills. We are specifically looking for an individual with outstanding analytical skills to tackle large and ambiguous business problems, and superb interpersonal skills to lead cross-functional teams to develop novel solutions. 
Depending on the needs and location of the team, you will need to work PDT or MDT or relocate to a specific office (site-based). You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.   
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of Standard Operating Metrics within the Management Operating System (MOS). 
  • Support the development of routine MOS reporting dashboards using PowerBI and other relevant supporting tools. 
  • Support the implementation of the performance management system for data and reporting. 
  • Support the enhancement and sustainment of existing tools critical to the MOS. 
  • Work with Change Management team to support any change management activities related to data stream as part of Management Operating System. 
  • Provide rigor and accuracy to the improvement effort. As the chief source of insight based on the data, facilitate the prioritization of improvement opportunities, and use root cause analysis to help resolve day-to-day issues with implementation.   
  • Collaborate with teams to proactively identify risks, issues and/or opportunities to ensure the maximum business value delivered.   
  • Collaborate with site counterparts, sharing your skills and building relationships across Teck’s operations, using your network to ensure the support for MOS

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent experience in mining engineering (strong preference), geological engineering or computer science 
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills  
  • Comfortable with engagement with site and Senior leaders 
  • Solid understanding of mining industry fundamentals   
  • Experience in the deployment of Continuous Improvement Programs within mining industry would be considered an asset.   
  • Ability to communicate effectively with precision in a technical environment.   
  • Able to articulate complex concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand.   
  • Able to work effectively independently as well as part of the team.   
  • Proven ability to learn innovative technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently.   
  • Comfortable with working in ambiguous and unstructured settings   
  • Interest in providing digital solutions in the mining industry is an asset.   
  • Fluency in Spanish is considered an asset.   
  • Communication: excellent at articulating points, and effectively delivering a message   
  • Change Agent: experience and understanding of effective change management   
  • Able to build relationships easily and comfortable with approaching others   
  • Adaptable: comfortable with working in ambiguous and unstructured settings   
  • Problem Solving: able to organize complex problems, frame analysis, and arrive at conclusions quickly   
  • Dedicated: able to independently deliver work products to timelines   
  • Able to build and nurture positive working relationships with individuals of a diverse set of backgrounds.  

Wage Range: $3900 - $4900 / Month

Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.
