Cricut is hiring a Regulatory Compliance Engineer for it's work with our contract manufacturers in Malaysia. This role is in Malaysia.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain an effective product Environmental compliance program to prevent and/or resolve product impacts/delays to the customer while minimizing business risk to organization.
- This applies to consumable materials such as vinyls and paper/card-stock, as well as materialscused in the fabrication of Cricut’s hardware machines.
- Monitor and analyze the developing trends and changes in Environmental regulatory compliance laws, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain Environmental Compliance policies and procedures.
- Evaluate materials & product designs to ensure conformity with applicable local, regional, and global environmental requirements regarding substances and materials.
- Support and also drive/manage, as needed, product certification efforts for Cricut’s hardware/machines as it relates to electrical product/safety certifications and energy efficiency.
- Work closely with new product design engineering, sustaining engineering, and operations to advise and optimize designs for current and known future materials and end-product regulatory requirements.
- Serve as a technical expert providing support and advice to all functional teams with respect to materials & product compliance.
- Work/communicate effectively with legal counsel, engineers, technical specialists, and management, cross functionally, in a multi-disciplinary, global environment.
- Interact with and manage conformity assessment efforts with regulators, outside agencies, industry trade groups/associations, and customers, as required.
- Evaluate product marking, packaging, and user documentation (in box and web) to ensure compliance with applicable local and global requirements.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert and effectively communicate environmental and other relevant regulatory and standards requirements to internal and external customers.
- Work with regulatory agencies and other external sources to understand upcoming changes in regulations and to determine, in advance, the impact on new and legacy products.
- Evaluate product changes for impact to current approvals, ensure compliance certificates are current, and any upcoming expirations are appropriately addressed.
- Coordinate compliance efforts with Suppliers as needed to establish and maintain continued compliance.
- Develop, maintain & implement robust environmental controls, training and policies to ensure full compliance throughout a large, geographically diverse organization.
- Effectively coordinate product testing with regulatory agencies (e.g., UL, CSA, ITS, etc.) including working with engineering and operations teams to ensure required samples, technical
- Work with internal, responsible Cricut staff and contract manufacturer staff to maintain quality procedures and resolve quality issues, as they affect regulatory compliance and safety of equipment/products manufactured by Cricut, Inc. in locations around the globe.
- Interface with and aid Cricut Member Care (customer support) staff as it relates to product Safety and Regulatory compliance issues.
- Participate, as needed, in relevant industry standards/code development organizations and meetings to ensure up-to-date knowledge of relevant materials environmental compliance issues which affect products manufactured by Cricut, Inc.
- Support company efforts towards developing Corporate Social Responsibility Program related product sustainability.
- Travel, as necessary, using available means such as automobile or airlines, to continually ensure that all above responsibilities are being consistently completed. Position could require up to 15% travel, which could include nights and weekends.
- Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience required.
- 2+ years working experience in the field of global electrical product regulatory compliance
- Working knowledge of general laboratory equipment (e.g., electrical, combustion, temperature, hydraulic, environmental), and safety.
- Strong knowledge of global Environmental Compliance Directives, Regulations and Standards including RoHS, Packaging, Battery, WEEE, REACH Directives, Prop 65, Conflict Minerals and Waste Framework Directive (WFD).
- Solid knowledge of global regulatory requirements and procedures related to consumer or similar equipment and appliances (e.g., UL, CSA, IEC, AS/NZS, EPA) is a significant plus.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills (multi-lingual skills are a definite plus).
- Multi-lingual, including English and Mandarin
- Solid administrative and organizational skills, with expertise in Microsoft Office and other similaapplication packages.
- Strong work ethic and self-motivation to work outside normal business hours to complete responsibilities and correspond/communicate with staff around the globe and in different time- zones.
- Demonstrated experience in and strong knowledge of product environmental regulations and standards affecting materials including and electronic equipment (materials restrictions, materials disclosures, end of life, recycling, eco-design, ...)
- Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple competing projects and prioritize tasks.
- Proven ability to communicate and collaborate with suppliers, industry peers, stakeholders, and at all levels of the company.
- Experience analyzing compliance data to verify accuracy.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills; ability to exercise sound judgement in applying these skills.
