About the Role:  

As a Regulatory Affairs Manager for Planet, you will be a member of our Legal team and will have the opportunity to work on regulatory and licensing issues that may have large compliance and/or financial implications for the company.  You will routinely interface with engineers, management, local and international personnel, as well as external counsel and government regulators.  You will be responsible for satellite and ground station licensing (ITU, FCC, NOAA, and countries outside the US where relevant) and regulatory reporting.  You will also help develop and articulate Planet policy positions on regulatory and space policy matters.  The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and works accurately and quickly.  You have at least 4 years of experience in satellite licensing and/or space policy matters.  You have an engineering background or have worked closely with engineers in the past and have an appreciation of business processes and risks.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Prepare domestic and international regulatory licensing documents
  • Assist with the drafting and review of internal processes and procedures for license compliance
  • Prepare and conduct regulatory compliance trainings for employees
  • Align with engineering, launch and manufacturing teams on necessary inputs for regulatory licensing and spectrum coordination
  • Draft and prepare filings for government agencies, including license applications, regulatory notifications, scheduled reporting, and rulemaking comments
  • Record-keeping retention and organization
  • Analyze proposed new laws and regulations for implications to Planet’s global business

What You Bring:

  • Must be a U.S. person
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science 
  • 4+ years of previous satellite licensing and/or policy experience
  • Experience reading and interpreting regulations
  • Excellent oral and written communication 
  • Experience with problem-solving and working with people of all levels
  • Advanced experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office, especially Sheets/Excel and Slides/PowerPoint

  • Advanced degree in law or engineering 
  • Experience in U.S. domestic satellite licensing and policy
  • Experience in a legal environment
  • Experience working with engineers or in a technical/aerospace environment
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment

EAR/ITAR Requirements:

This position requires access to export-controlled technology, and as such, and in accordance to applicable law, employment is only open to US citizens, US nationals, lawful permanent residents of the US or persons admitted to the US as an asylee or refugee.

Compensation:

The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is $89,200 - $126,800.  Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location.  The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only.  Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

This position requires access to export controlled technology, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate’s ability to access EAR and/or ITAR controlled technology pursuant to an export license approved by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
