JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title:Regional Scout
Department:Amateur Scouting
Reports To:Director, Amateur Scouting
Available Regions: Midwest – Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota
Primary Objective: Responsible for supporting and assisting the Director of Amateur Scouting in all facets of player evaluation.
Essential Functions:

Evaluate and report on all players in the assigned area.

Maintain and update a comprehensive “Preference List” for the assigned area.

Provide and present all relevant background information (interviews, character assessments, test applications, etc.) on prospects in the assigned area.

Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Mariners role system and apply it at all levels.

File schedules for all schools/programs in the assigned area. Provide guidance and recommendation for incoming crosscheckers and other members of the scouting department.

Provide prospect “follow reports” on prospects for upcoming draft classes.
- Author and provide reports, preferences and recommendations in all forms of player acquisition (Trade, Free Agency, Rule 5 Draft, Rule 4 Draft, 6-Year Free Agency, etc.).

Special Assignment coverages as assigned by Assistant Director and/or Director, Amateur Scouting

Evaluate all assigned coverages and players-of-interest.

Attend Regional Scouting meeting in advance of the annual June Draft. Provide detailed presentation of each prospect in the assigned area.

Regularly collaborate with scouting leadership in developing self-improvement plans in all areas, including goal planning and reviews.

Aid Pro Scouting Department when assigned.

Will perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Equivalent, relevant work experience would be considered in lieu of formal education.

A minimum of two (2) years’ relevant work experience required. Previous amateur scouting experience required.
