Role Mission: The Regional Facilities and Construction Manager manages the IDEA experience beyond the classroom, from the moment a student sets foot in our schools until a student walks the stage at graduation. The Regional Facilities and Construction Manager works to eliminate operational obstacles that could prevent teachers and school leaders from focusing on instruction. Specifically, the Regional Facilities and Construction Manager is responsible for achieving operational excellence at every school, with a specific emphasis in the following areas: staff hiring, onboarding and development, facility maintenance, and staff and student safety. Additionally, the Regional Facilities and Construction Manager leads the execution of construction and warranty management.

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $72,787 and $84,431, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on organizational performance and goal attainment.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration or related field preferred

Experience: Minimum 3-5 years experience in facilities and/or construction management; with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role
Knowledge and Skills:
- The ability to motivate, delegate, and lead a diverse team to accomplish goals.
- Has knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal guidelines relating to energy and utility management and processes.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and processes used in facilities and construction.
- Ability to navigate architectural plans and technical drawings.
- Computer literacy; can use Microsoft Office software.
- Strong mathematical skills with ability to understand and interpret data (charts, graphs, etc.).
- Can follow verbal and written instructions/guidance.

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities:
Leads schools in operation goals in accordance with IDEA’s growth plans
- Manages construction related projects (new, 2nd phase, existing school facility improvement and expansion, and installation of modular units) to deliver timely, quality, cost-effective facilities in time for school openings.

Directs CapEx facility improvement efforts from approval to execution by working with regional and school personnel to conduct master planning, identify projects, determine costs, and manage the construction process.
- Ensures that 100% of Facility Managers hired by 5/1 and Custodians by 7/1, 100% of Summer Institute sessions are executed with excellence and with 100% staff attendance, 100% of facilities heavy equipment delivered to campuses by July 1, 100% of new campuses fully stocked with all custodial supplies, 100% of HVAC units are functional two weeks before the first day of school, 100% of modular units are installed with certificate of occupancy by July 1, 100% of new buildings have Certificate of Occupancy by July 31, 100% of building turnover meetings are conducted with Principals, APO's, and FM's by June 30, 100% of campus spaces have a comfortable temperature on the first day of school, 100% of campus staff have the required keys to lock classrooms and access staff restrooms.
Ensures top performers occupy every seat across Facilities and Construction (85% Facilities and Construction Staff Retention Rate)
- Establishes hiring practices to attract top performers for every role in Facilities and Construction, including screening exercises, interview protocols and vetting mechanisms.
- Customizes onboarding practices to ensure each new team member is set up for success based on the unique responsibilities of their role.
- Develops and executes differentiated professional development for Facilities and Construction staff, to build technical capacity, and leadership and management acumen.
Achieves Operational and Financial Excellence in Facilities through Direct and Indirect Management (cost/sqft, A+ in Quality, Safety & Energy Audits)
- Provides strategic and tactical leadership in the areas of Facilities and Construction. Directly manages the Facilities and Construction team to achieve the highest levels of performance.
- Indirectly manages Facilities teams at each campus to achieve the highest standards in quality and safety, the highest level of operational efficiency and the financial targets at every campus.
- Indirectly manages Facility Managers by providing technical training, ongoing support, and by building the capacity of their managers (APOs) to oversee their work effectively.
- Works with Regional Directors of Operations (RDOs) to mentor and support Assistant Principals of Operations (APOs) on best practices, analysis and tracking mechanisms to ensure effective monitoring of progress toward goals (PTGs).
Achieves Safety Excellence in Facilities through Direct and Indirect Management
- Provides strategic and tactical leadership in the areas of safety in Facilities and Construction by evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law.
- Indirectly manages Facilities teams at each campus to achieve the highest standards in safety by preparing and enforcing policies to establish a culture of safety with students, staff and parents.
- Indirectly manages Facility Managers by providing training, ongoing support, and by building the capacity of their managers (APOs) to oversee their work effectively in the areas of safety.
- Works with Regional Directors of Operations (RDOs) to mentor and support Assistant Principals of Operations (APOs) on best safety practices, analysis and tracking mechanisms to ensure monitoring of safety procedures.
Ensures 95% of construction punch list and warranty items are resolved within 90 days after the first day of school

Oversee all aspects of construction; including coordination with project managers and design professionals, oversight of contractor selection and the bidding process, management of multiple construction schedules, as well as on-going oversight of warranty programs.

Attend construction project meetings with general contractors and project engineers during the construction process to minimize punchlist items.
- Attend walks of new campuses to ensure proper standards have been followed and rectify inconsistencies immediately.

Follow up on punchlist items to ensure they are resolved within 90 days of the school opening.
- Identify opportunities to improve construction standards and building quality.
