Background 
Search for Common Ground (Search) is an international non-profit organization that promotes the peaceful transformation of conflict. With more than 700 staff worldwide, Search implements projects in more than 30 African countries, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and North America.

A fundamental component of the Search, Nigeria's peacebuilding strategy is research. Consequently, using a range of techniques, such as baseline, Midline and end-line surveys, conflict assessments, Conflict Snapshots, and participatory action research, guarantees that our interventions are tailored to the environments in which the organization operates.  Additionally, SFCG's research aids in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities, which helps in gauging the effectiveness of programs and offering vital information for developing new strategies.

Therefore, enumerators are an integral part of successfully carrying out data collection in surveys, assessments, or any other research study carried out by the organization. Search for Common Ground, Nigeria requests resumes from qualified enumerators to create a roster to enable timely and efficient utilization of but not limited to future enumerators' opportunities. This pool will be required for field data collection, interviews, focus group discussions, and other research activities as & when necessary.

Call Summary Objective 
The main objective is to create and maintain by the DMEL Unit a pool of pre-qualified enumerators who can be mobilized quickly by the DMEL Unit for data collection activities across the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). These enumerators will be responsible for gathering high-quality data in alignment with Search project goals and objectives. 


Specific Objectives

  • The specific objectives include to:
  • Recruit Flexible and Committed Enumerators: Employ a pool of qualified enumerators who have experience in data collection, research methodology, and use of digital data collection tools, which can be deployed on short notice to enable successful implementation of various project population counts.
  • Establish a Quick Response Pool of Enumerators: Build a pool of pre-qualified and trained enumerators that can be quickly deployed for any current or future data collection, noting their readiness with the requisite tools and local context knowledge.
  • Improved Data Quality and Accuracy: Ensure that all field enumerators are trained and competent enough to get standardized data rapidly considering their skills, validating the use of error-free data helping you collect fresh data in the field.
  • Timely Mobilize and Deployment: Build a flexible system to enable timely mobilization and deployment of enumerators for ground data collection tasks in various locations across the country, thereby making certain that project timelines are met.

Scope of the Work

  • Data Collection: Conducting field data collection using various methodologies (surveys, focus group discussions, observations, etc.) with adherence to ethical standards and protocols.
  • Use of Data Collection Tools: Using both paper-based and digital collection tools (e.g. ODK, Kobo Toolbox, or other platforms) as instructed.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Ensuring accuracy, completeness, and reliability of the data collected.
  • Compliance with Protocols: Following project guidelines, ethical standards, and safety protocols during data collection.
  • Reporting: Timely submission of collected data and participation in debriefing or detailed report submissions as required.
  • Coordination: Working closely with the project coordinators and supervisors, providing feedback, and responding to queries as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Among the key responsibilities of enumerators, include: 
  • Attend training sessions and understand project objectives, methodology and the use and application of data collection tools in the field
  • Conduct interviews, surveys and focus group discussions in designated states/locations to gather information
  • Adhere/follow research ethics, especially in handling sensitive data and ensuring the confidentiality of participants and related data 
  • Ensure high quality and accurate recording of responses and verify that data is collected according to established guidelines, procedures or protocols.
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisors, other data collectors, and DMEL officers to ensure clarity, resolve issues, and provide updates on data collection progress.
  • Report any challenges faced in the field to supervisors promptly 
  • Submit all completed data and report at the end of the data collection promptly and 
  • Undertake any other responsibility related to the data collection as may be assigned. 

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:  At least SSCE or diploma or degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Demography, or any other related field
  • Experience: Previous experience in data collection, research, or surveys (experience with health, education, conflict resolution, behavior change, or humanitarian data collection is a plus)
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with digital data collection tools (e.g. ODK, Kobo Toolbox, and basic computer literacy (MS Excel, MS Word)
  • Language: Proficiency in English and local languages spoken in the locations/areas of data collection
  • Soft Skills: Good communication skills, attention to detail, ability to work in a team, and ability to adapt to changing conditions in the field.
  • Other Requirements: Willingness to travel to and work in various locations, sometimes under challenging conditions. Knowledge of local context and cultures will be an advantage
