About the Role

As Recruiting Manager, you will lead recruiting strategy for the engineering, hardware, security and IT teams of OpenAI. In this role, you will partner with executives and leaders throughout the company to scale our recruiting processes and initiatives to align with hiring needs. You will work across all of our engineering teams supporting them at levels of hiring from early stage careers through to industry leaders. You will lead and grow a high-performing team of sourcers and recruiters to recruit and close the extraordinary talent we need to fulfill our mission.

We are looking for a seasoned leader who will establish the recruiting vision and strategy for our next growth stage and see them through to exemplary execution. The ideal candidate will combine extensive experience managing recruitment activities for high-performing tech organizations and a desire to build a recruiting organization that aligns with OpenAI’s mission and values. You will play a key role in championing those values and acting as a culture carrier and change agent, inspiring confidence, motivation, and engagement from the organization and developing strong collaborative relationships to drive extraordinary results. 

We are considering candidates to work out of our San Francisco HQ.

In this role, you will: 

  • Craft the strategy and visions for recruitment activities. You will be responsible for optimizing the organization and practices of the team to drive results. You’ll define and iterate on recruiting goals and key performance indicators. 
  • Manage a team of recruiters and sourcers building a best-in-class team that maintains a culture of high performance, growth mindset, radical ownership, collaboration, and inclusion that will enable our brilliant team to do their best work. 
  • Partner with executives and hiring managers to develop a deep understanding of our business's current and future hiring needs and develop strategies to fulfill those needs.
  • Be a recruiting advisor and partner to the leadership team and be an essential driver of recruiting excellence across the organization.
  • Propose and run experiments to find novel techniques and solutions for challenging recruiting problems.
  • Ensure that we offer a best-in-class candidate experience.

We’re looking for a blend of:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in recruiting and 3+ years experience in a leadership or management position
  • Demonstrable success leading strategy and driving execution to hire top-tier talent for a premier tech company and/or high-growth startup, including hiring talent in extremely niche talent markets
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to influence management and contributors at all levels of the organization and across functions
  • A proactive leader with a strong track record in building high-functioning recruiting organizations
  • Exemplary analytical, verbal / written communication, and interpersonal skills

Compensation, Benefits and Perks

The annual salary range for this role is $230,000 – $285,000. Total compensation also includes generous equity and benefits.
