Basic Purpose
Quality Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of quality assurance and manufacturing quality systems at the Scottsville Components Plant. Key responsibilities include 1) maintenance of quality systems (Control Plans, FMEA’s and work instructions), 2) investigation of customer complaints / submission of appropriate corrective actions / effectiveness audits of corrective actions, 3) Change Point Control management control, 4) control of customer specific requirement, including CQI audits, 5) control of quarantine material, 6) support of calibration systems and 6) support of other projects as assigned.
Basic Position Duties

Communication: Lead cross functional team meetings both in person and by using virtual technologies (TEAMS/WEBEX). Prepare investigative reports/customer 8D reports/ which effectively summarize and communicate root cause analysis, improvement plans, technical details including product dimensions, corrective handling methods and product cautionary instructions. Ability for public speaking; presentation of reports, data, and investigative finds. Ability to develop clear and concise presentation materials.

Product Testing and Validation: Able to read product drawings/inspection standards, understand product tolerancing and prepare product test and dimensional reports for submission to customers. Be able to utilize lab equipment in the course of performing investigations/responding to customer inquiries (measuring microscope, Keyence Measuring Systems, Profile Projector, Melt Flow Indexer, polarizing microscope, tensile tester, etc.) Train QA members on new equipment usage and trouble shoot equipment issues.

Corrective Action: React quickly to customer complaints and inquiries (initial cross-functional team meetings, 3D submission, root cause analysis, 8D submission, effectiveness audits), ensuring all customer specific requirements related to claims are met. Requires quick identification of suspect product and effective communication with customers. Develop strong understanding of production processes.

Containment Action: Provide SEWS customers with sorting/containment support when required, including the development of Temporary Work Instructions (TWI) and quality alerts as necessary, the certification of shipments and issuance/tracking of RMA’s. Work with QA/Manufacturing/Warehouse to ensure suspect materials are contained. Must develop strong skills with authorizations. Work with QA/Manufacturing/warehouse/Subcontractors to ensure potentially backtracking/identification of suspect range, working with manufacturing to identify clean points.

QMS Management: Support the maintenance of QMS systems for injection molding / assembly processes (FMEA/Control Plans/Work Instruction), supporting in periodic systems reviews and in internal/external QMS audits. Responsible to maintain plant compliance with IATF 16949 requirements. Position will support the creation/confirmation of work instructions/forms for the QA Lab and In-Line area. Experience with Core Tools: Control Plans/PFMEA’s/Attribute Studies/Gage R&R/MSA, 8D’s, 5Whys, SCR documents, etc.

Auditing: Audit processes to confirm compliance with SWS, IATF, Government and Customer requirements. Perform process audits, 5S audits, RU ready audits. PK Audits (including audit preparation), work compliance audits of operators and other audits as assigned.

Quarantine Control: Oversee and support daily quarantine control activities to ensure robust control of non-conforming product (scanning, transfer, disposition), including the development of temporary work instructions for proper product disposition. Ensure the backtracking activities are robustly implemented.

Process Change Management: Notify customers (SCR’s/Process Change Requests) of future changes in production location /
method / molds / machine to ensure quick approvals. Schedule and perform RU Ready Audits, manage product trials, material validation, first shipments, etc. Support validation (Rainbow) activity for Franklin plant.

Supervision: Supervise In-Line inspectors ensuring that inspection activities are effective. Track the detection of broken pins and other critical visual defects to ensure that all inspectors are finding defects at first opportunity. Administer training of tool boxes and “minute to find it” materials as a skill development activity.

Training: Train QA department members (training on new equipment, training of new testing methods, other training as applicable) to ensure optimum and proper use of equipment and standardization methods.

Continuous Improvement: Support continuous improvement efforts, including efforts to introduce/improve in daily quality systems (Kaizen/QT Team participation. Feed forward improvements / countermeasures to other areas).

Calibration and MSA: Calibrate gages and equipment, coordinate annual MSA studies as required by IATF and coordinate calibration of equipment by external vendors. Train leaders/Coordinators in calibration methods of assembly master samples and other frequently used gages.

Position Requirements
Minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; 5+ years’ experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment is preferred. Automotive industry experience in injection molding / wire harness is preferred. Exabit knowledge/skill with quality management systems, corrective action systems (5Why/8D), auditing capabilities, competent computer skills and supervisory capabilities.
5-7 Years of Progressive Engineering Experience
