Overview:
The New Jersey Department of Health’s Vaccine Preventable Disease Program is looking to hire a Temperature Excursion Specialists. These candidates will work with the Vaccine for Children and COVID-19 jurisdiction staff to play a major role in ensuring that VFC and COVID-19 vaccines are stored and managed appropriately amongst over 2,500 enrolled providers throughout the state, as well as serving as the pharmaceutical subject matter expert in handling complex storage and handling issues and dealing with provider corrective actions.
The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded health professional with experience in vaccine storage and handling, reviewing digital data logger files, supporting providers through temperature excursion investigations, and interacting with vaccine manufacturers and healthcare providers. Experience in handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, maintaining a high level of professionalism, and crafting timely communications between multiple stakeholders is preferred.
Qualifications:
•Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Pharm D is required.
•Minimum of 2 years public health and/or pharmacy experience required. Experience working with an immunization program strongly preferred.
•Experience with vaccine storage, handling, and management.
•Skilled in data analysis, interpretation, and evaluation.
•Self-motivated with exceptional organizational skills and high attention to detail.
•Ability to work collaboratively with technical experts, administrators, external partners including healthcare providers, and the public.

Responsibilities:
•Keep abreast of current VFC and COVID-19 vaccine storage and handling guidance.
•Provide education to internal and external partners on proper vaccine storage, handling, and accountability.
•Review digital data logger (DDL) data files for providers whose vaccines have been exposed to out-of-range temperatures to assist the provider in calculating the time the vaccine storage units were out of range.
•Collaborate with vaccine manufacturers to validate provider temperature excursion assessments and vaccine viability.
•Work with providers to assist in the development and execution of corrective action plans to ensure that additional temperature excursions are prevented, and vaccines are stored and handled in compliance with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance.
•Review, update, and develop policies and procedures to ensure proper vaccine storage and handling by VFC and COVID-19 providers.
•Visit provider offices throughout New Jersey who have difficulty with vaccine storage and handling, as needed.
•Support providers through re-vaccination and restitution activities as a result of temperature excursions or unaccounted for vaccine doses.
•Serve as the pharmaceutical subject matter expert in responding to complex storage and handling issues and dealing with provider corrective actions.
•Enforce state and federal guidelines concerning the Vaccines for Children Program and the COVID-19 Vaccination Program.
•Build, foster and maintain peer-to-peer relationships with state and local partners, New Jersey healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.
