Barbaricum is seeking a Public Affairs Specialist to support a contract with the National Museum of the United States Army. The Army Museum honors American soldiers by providing a comprehensive portrayal of Army history and traditions. The Public Affairs Specialist creates and guides communication plans for the museum while working with the team's social media and event managers. Candidate must be able to obtain a favorably adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background check (or already have a NACI or higher-level security clearance). This individual will also assume program management duties to oversee contract scope, schedule, quality, and manage the two other communications specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a full-service media relations capability to promote Museum activities, programs, and messaging
  • Provide media relations services in response to media requests
  • Promote news releases, advisories, and announcements
  • Generate, research, write, edit, and coordinate with subject matter experts on news releases, media advisories, and public announcements each week
  • Prepare media products targeted to an "internal Army audience" in support of Army museum communication strategies and goals
  • Review museum media products produced by partner organizations and key stakeholders for accuracy, policy adherence, and support of communications objectives
  • Review and update standard press material products each month
  • Generate, research, write, update, edit, and coordinate the review of press materials in print and digital formats
  • Manage the development, production, inventory control, and distribution of Museum guides and collateral material regularly distributed via regional visitor centers, area attractions, and other tourism/visitor outlets
  • Ensure press materials are relevant and accurate and address errors and inadequacies
  • Coordinate media inquiries and respond to media product requests
  • Provide media escort for onsite events and projects
  • Provide media relations services for in-depth/on-sight media interviews and filming.
  • Assess, analyze, research, and prepare responses for inquiries via the appropriate channels
  • Receive and document inquiries received by email, phone, or in person
  • Track repeat inquiry topics and trends for improvement
  • Research and develop communications plans for big-picture/overall museum public affairs in accordance with Army policy and in support of the Army Museum's mission and goals (strategic communications, crisis communications, data gathering, media events, and outreach activities)
  • On a limited basis, some off-hours and holiday work may be required to accommodate Museum events

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance
  • BA/BS preferred
  • 3 years of relevant experience, to include experience managing other personnel
  • Experience in communication planning, media relations, and creating written communication materials
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently to propose and create public affairs ideas and solutions for the Army client's needs
