Control Risks is looking to hire a Protective Design Project Specialist to support a Fortune 500 technology company.
The Project Specialist role within the Client's program requires expertise in protective design, physical security, and/or civil construction, with a strong focus on integrating security measures into large-scale design and construction initiatives, particularly for critical facilities like data centers and workplace offices. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of security risk management, security design principles, and project delivery frameworks, leveraging this expertise to develop and implement technical security solutions that align with the Client's construction and operational standards.
Key responsibilities include coordinating the integration of physical security requirements—such as site layout, perimeter barriers, access control systems, intrusion detection, video surveillance, security lighting, and structural hardening—into new-build projects while ensuring close collaboration with multidisciplinary partners and internal teams. The position requires exceptional program management skills to oversee technical deliverables, track project milestones, manage stakeholder engagement, and align solutions with scope, budget, and risk parameters. Additionally, the successful candidate will work closely with operational security teams and security technology experts to ensure both immediate and long-term operational needs are met, demonstrating a proven ability to navigate complex, multidisciplinary environments while delivering secure and resilient facilities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure that all security requirements and guidelines are clearly communicated to the project team. This will require working across all levels of the organization to provide background and educate both technical and non-technical stakeholders on security requirements.
- Reviewing design drawings and security system plans to support the security program including, but not limited to: Access Control Measures, CCTV Cameras.
- Analyze and evaluate the likelihood of impact of potential physical security breaches to support global standard development and use.
- Work with internal stakeholders to understand and the client’s physical security standards into critical locations.
- Provide recommendations for security enhancements based on risk levels, in accordance with the program’s risk-based methodology.
- Attend meetings with internal project design teams with the purpose of coordinating security requirements, reviewing on-going project progress, and providing guidance on the implementation of standards, as needed.
- Work with internal partners to ensure that security elements are appropriately coordinated across standards, schematic design documents (drawings and specifications) and detailed design documents.
- Work with external design consultants to ensure that security elements are appropriately incorporated into contract documents according to standards and in adherence to local and international laws.
- Review design team drawings deviations, and variances in accordance with the Client's security standards.
- Work with internal partners to ensure that security elements are constructed, commissioned, and maintained in accordance with internal standards and industry best practices.
- Support efforts to scale the security design practice including activities related to evaluation of current practices; investigation of new technologies, means and methods; development of presentation materials, forms, and guidance documents.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering (Civil, Structural) and 5-7 years of relevant work experience (e.g., design, construction, O&M) or 4+ years of experience in technical and/or physical security design.
- Knowledge of and experience with design and construction management.
- Experience with mission critical and/or technical facility projects.
- Experience with communicating technical information to technical and non-technical personnel.
- Relevant professional registration(s) and/or certifications.

The base salary range for this position in California is $90,000-$100,000 per year. Exact compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This information is provided per California SB 1162.
