ABOUT THE ROLE

The ideal selected candidate will be a key member of the Technology Solutions group. This position entails acting as a senior client/project manager, business development leader, manager of projects and mentor of staff. This role is focused on providing strategic and tactical business development and project management leadership to advance the firm’s Smart Building and Technology design practice.  

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Be an ambassador of our brand, responsible for demonstrating how our Living-Centered Design approach can help clients and partners achieve enduring success. 
  • Collaborate effectively with all team members. Generate and support a positive team environment: participation, empowerment, and accomplishment. 
  • As the first project manager added to this group, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the strategy and growth that will shape this practice. 
  • Capitalize upon your existing network and CannonDesign’s client base / stakeholders to market Smart Building Technology design services to our core markets – Healthcare, Education, Commercial, Community and Civic. 
  • Manage multiple and/or large projects from concept stage through construction in a demanding environment with multiple deadlines. 
  • Develop client and partner relationships that identify and secure new opportunities in target markets to grow top line revenue.   
  • Provide project management and technology design leadership for regional and national projects.  
  • Partner with Office Practice Leaders to lead, collaborate with and support Market and Client Leaders in positioning the firm for obtaining Smart Building / Technology Infrastructure design work.   
  • Work directly with the Technology Solutions Group Leader to understand the current trends and capabilities of the existing service line and assist in developing new strategies to improve the implementation and efficiency of operations based on industry opportunities.   
  • Ability to understand and facilitate workload demands of team members and manage operations for team members. 
  • Work with A/E team leaders to identify technology scope and implement strategies for design and implementation of Smart/integrated technology systems in multiple markets. 
  • Develop and maintain positive client relations throughout the life of the project. Communicate design, construction, and other issues to clients in a clear and compelling way. 
  • Develop a partnering relationship with the client early in engagements to establish and document shared expectations and provide clarity on how we will work together, the involvement of key stakeholders, and the timing of key decisions. 
  • Play a lead role in key meetings and presentations. 
  • Understand our contractual obligations to the client and the project to ensure that the team delivers on expectations for our scope of work and required services. Work proactively with the client to identify and obtain approvals for additions to scope of work or services prior to undertaking the work. Proactively communicate with and influence clients to approve and process payables for our services. 
  • Lead project teams, in conjunction with the client leadership, to develop project goals and work plans, and achieve quality, budget, schedule, innovation and profitability objectives.  
  • Facilitate the development, evolution and management of the work plan, budget, and schedule. Preferred tools include MS Project and Deltek Project Planning. 
  • Manage and be responsible for overall technology design, documentation and quality management process and implementation of the design during the construction process. 
  • Accountable to maintain the project record, includes but not limited to documenting key decisions and records within the CannonDesign standard file structure. 
  • Accountable for risk mitigation and compliance.  
  • Implement CannonDesign’s methods using process expectations, best practices, reference standards, tools, templates, and technology to achieve competitive advantage, superior service delivery and quality, and enhanced team productivity and profitability.  
  • Understand what documentation is needed and prepare contract documents with assistance of the technology team. 
  • Manage and coordinate workload of team and provide leadership of team activities. Communicate client objectives to team members. Provide constructive feedback and mentoring to team members. Identify and share lessons learned with teams. 
  • Be a proactive resource to project teams in their decision-making processes and in the development of technically sound and innovative planning and design solutions. 
  • Meet with project team members on a regular basis to monitor work in progress and to assure that the firm’s best practice standards and procedures are being implemented. 
  • Accountable for the QA/QC process. Monitor the technical quality of the projects. Be an active participant in and enforce the application of the QA/QC process.  
  • Coordinate with the Project Architect and the Quality leader in planning the work. 
  • Participate in negotiating the contract with other project leadership, the Business Practice Leader, and Legal Team. 
  • Meet with clients to learn user needs, collaborate with project team, and develop engineering concepts and recommendations. 
  • Visit job site to assess conflicts and make recommendations for resolution. 
  • Evaluate and attract candidates for new positions in department or the overall firm. 
  • Create and/or check proposal drafts and provide guidance as needed. Establish timelines for proposal preparation and clarify necessary content. 
  • Understand clients’ developmental needs; capable of establishing and maintaining professional relationships with clients; orchestrates changes in response to changes in clients’ stated needs. 
  • Have the ability to travel from coast to coast in order to meet project and client needs. 
  • May perform other duties as required.
ABOUT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction or related degree required. 
  • Minimum of 10 years related experience.
  • Capability of performing in a project management role for single or multiple projects. 
  • Licensure or registration in the United States preferred.
  • LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge in discpline. 
  • Considered a high level specialist, leads less experienced team members. 
  • Must have the ability to be client facing with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen, technical knowledge, coordination skills and the ability to build a rapport with the project team and client is essential.
  • Familiarity with Revit, Microsoft Office, MS Project, Deltek Vision, Bluebeam as well as other data management software is required.
