IO’s Project Delivery Enterprise Team delivers some of the province’s largest and most important public infrastructure projects, including new hospitals, highways, transit systems, and courthouses. The role will focus on projects specifically related to transit infrastructure and will require working closely with Metrolinx and an integrated project team on delivery of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension project. 
 
To be successful in the role, the incumbent should bring sound commercial management skills, stakeholder management skills and experience finding positive solutions to complex issues with clients and diverse teams of project consultants and specialists.  Advanced presentation, consultation, negotiation, influencing and consensus building skills are also required.

Location:  1 Dundas Street West, Toronto (corporate office for meetings) and 2920 Matheson Boulevard E., Mississauga (project office).

What You Will Do:

  • Manage the commercial implementation and procurement of major transit projects using a collaborative contracting model.
  • Lead the implementation of tools and processes associated with commercial management of transit infrastructure projects in the implementation phase.
  • Provide commercial support and liaise with the technical team and consultants, as required, on key issues throughout the planning, procurement, design, and construction phases of a project.
  • Manage relationships with various groups of internal and external stakeholders to identify issues related to planning, staging, procurement, government approvals, relationship management and other commercial matters.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation measures, specific to complex projects including commercial issues.
  • Support the Director and Executives on the overall management of a major Project (or group of Projects) specifically by providing commercial advice on contracts and developing commercial strategy for successful project execution. 
  • Manage claims and variations through effective analysis of supporting documents and conducting negotiations with contractors.
  • Other duties and special initiatives as required to support Projects.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to colleagues such as project coordinators and senior project coordinators. 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Substantial hands-on experience managing major complex infrastructure projects, preferably projects that use collaborative contracting models (e.g., alliance, progressive design-build, integrated project delivery, etc.).
  • Experience or education in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or other relevant discipline to the engineering and construction industry.
  • PMP certification or in the process of acquiring.
  • Strong business acumen and an understanding of dealing with project budgets, schedules, risk analysis and technical requirements/issues associated with completing construction projects as well as familiarity with conflict avoidance and dispute resolution processes.
  • Strong presentation skills, communication skills and ability to speak to audiences at the staff level in addition to senior executive. 
  • Good understanding of construction and systems, including understanding of the various specific P3 delivery models (e.g. Build-Finance, Design-Build-Finance, Design-Build-Finance-Maintain, etc.).
  • Experience negotiating claims, scope changes and other compliance and contractual items on major projects is preferred.
  • Experience interfacing with adjacent projects, integrating design and construction with other projects, or extending existing transit systems.

The hiring range for this position is $99,300 - $149,000, with a corresponding job level of PM3. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, knowledge and experience.
