Richmond, United States
Full-Time

We have an immediate opportunity for a Sales Engineer with a technical/engineering background.

Axiom Exergy’s team has developed commercialized a game-changing energy storage solution for supermarkets and refrigerated facilities. Our mission is to transform the world’s cooling systems into intelligent, cloud-connected, low-cost batteries. We are seeking a new team member to support our Director of Sales and Marketing as we refine our go-to-market strategy, create a scalable sales process, generate new models/tools to aid in project development, expand our sales pipeline, and build deep relationships with our key customers. The ideal candidate will have an engineering/technical background, an interest in developing a technical sales skillset, is passionate about energy storage, and is willing to do whatever it takes to support Axiom’s growth!

What You’ll Do

The Sales Engineer is a key member of the sales team. You will be responsible for enabling sales opportunities with customers and key accounts within the Grocery and Cold Storage Industries. You will accelerate Axiom’s growth by vetting projects and developing data-backed value propositions for specific customer locations.

You will work directly with the Director of Sales and Marketing on the following strategic initiatives:

  • Build a pipeline of potential target customers and locations based on specific criteria
  • Identify, qualify, and prioritize potential projects, end customers, and channel partners
  • Work closely with Sales and Engineering to assess and vet projects and compile concise summaries of those projects
  • Refine the technical tools used by the business to assess sales opportunities
  • Manage relationships with customer representatives, and assist in advancing customers through the pipeline
  • Visit sites and methodically capture and compile the most relevant information to determine the best path forward from a sales and project engineering perspective
  • Maintain responsiveness and technical and financial expertise in presenting solutions internally and to customers
  • Analyze energy industry trends, utility rate schedules, and other key indicators to incorporate into customer analyses and value propositions
  • Author articles, blog posts, or marketing materials that will be used to promote Axiom’s thought leadership
  • Provide customer and market feedback in product management discussions with Axiom’s product development and project deployment teams
  • Anything else necessary to support Axiom’s growth

You will have the opportunity to develop as a technical sales leader. You will also have the opportunity to work directly with Axiom’s CEO and CTO on other strategic initiatives that match your skills/interests.

Who You Are

  • 2+ years of experience in a technical role in energy, utilities, or general engineering. Bonus: a technical degree.
  • A desire to contribute to the commercial side of the business. A desire to develop as a sales and business development leader.

  • Ability to proactively source and generate quality leads
  • An eagerness to enable sales for a game-changing technology in a fast paced environment
  • Expertise in direct, articulate communication with internal and external parties from building engineers to executives
  • Basic understanding of utility tariffs and the energy industry
  • Understanding of thermodynamic principles and experience analyzing commercial equipment
  • Flexible, self-motivated, high-functioning team player
  • Tactical thinker and exceptional, concise communicator and writer
  • Attention to detail, both internally and with customers
  • Able to work in an unstructured environment without losing the greater vision
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks with an eye on customer satisfaction and reputation building
  • Interest in working for a small, dynamic, early-stage tech company (very exciting, but hard work!)
  • Ability to wear many hats, juggle many projects, and switch tasks quickly
  • Bonus: experience in project management, technical sales, or business development in an energy-related field
  • Bonus: experience with the grocery or refrigeration industry

The Fine Print

  • This position is flexible. We can make it an internship / co-op, a contract position, or standard full-time employment.
  • Compensation in cash and equity in the company.
  • As startups go, the work is demanding and the hours are long, but we’ll make every effort to find an arrangement that works.
  • A moderate amount of travel for site evaluations and installations.
