The Program Specialist (PS) for Non-Infectious Disease Programs implements public health projects in domestic and global settings. Implementation is done in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), donors and other internal and external partners. With discretion and professionalism, the PS is responsible for the coordinated management and support of projects directed toward the CDC Foundation’s strategic and business objectives. The PS will work with the Program Officer, Senior Program Officer and Field Employees in advancing the work of a subset of projects. Some of the projects that will be supported by the PS include:

- The Overdose Prevention Indicators Project is developing a set of indicators for local communities to track and improve interventions and address health equity in prevention efforts. These indicators and related content will be available on a forthcoming website, overdosemeasuresmatter.org.
- MDI Connect is a collaborative learning environment where medicolegal death investigation (MDI) offices, data sharing partners, vendors and FHIR® subject matter experts design, build, and test technical strategies to modernize MDI practices and work towards standards-based data exchange.
- Million Hearts® Alliance is a CDC Foundation-led public-private coalition to help accelerate CDC’s Million Hearts® Initiative toward its goal of preventing one million heart attacks and strokes. The alliance produces consumer-focused awareness campaigns and behavior change programs to complement CDC’s focus on clinicians.

Each of these projects is supported by technical assistance and advising from the CDC.

Remote candidates will be considered; however, Atlanta-based applicants are preferred. Attendance at in-person team meetings in Atlanta and across the US is required. Relocation expenses are not provided.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Executes and monitors projects activities as outlined in project workplans, timelines and other deliverable tracking systems (e.g. databases and spreadsheets).
  • Provides programmatic support by managing logistics and coordination required to deliver program activities, including for virtual and in-person meetings and coordinating travel, etc.
  • Schedules and supports meetings and calls, prepares meeting materials in collaboration with internal and external partners, takes meeting notes and conducts follow-up on action items.
  • Supports internal project team in maintaining consistent, high-quality working relationships with contractors, vendors and subject matter experts (e.g. health equity consultant), field employees and partners.
  • Serves as project liaison for and between internal and external partners, including various cohorts of awardees.
  • Assists with developing communications content and managing communication with various internal and external partners.
  • Supports preparation of drafts of narrative and financial project-related reports or updates to donors in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Ensure that internal and external communication documents conform to agency policies, branding, and style.
  • Prepares components of project-related contracts and agreements. Supports receipt and payment of invoices.
  • May travel domestically to support the designated projects and other CDC Foundation team members (up to 10 percent annually).
  • Participates in and/or supports special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Necessary Skills

  • Master’s degree completed or nearing completion in public health or related field from an accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of public health or related professional experience required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience preparing, writing and editing complex documents such as reports and project summary documents; and concise presentation of information using data and science to drive messaging.
  • Strong technical skills including word processing, spreadsheet and database management.
  • Skills in project management and budget management preferred.
  • Ability to quickly learn new processes and systems used to manage day-to-day activities such as program management and project tracking.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; resourceful and efficient; collegial, energetic and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues, donors and partners.
  • Flexible, adaptive and willingness to learn and work with and across teams.
  • Sound judgment and maturity, exemplified by consistent professionalism in dealing with individuals at all levels both internally and externally.
