General Summary

As Production Editor, you will support the Production & Editorial team in a variety of functions required to produce and manage physical and digital print, audio, video, and software products. The Production Editor serves as the intermediary between product-line editors and other departments such as Purchasing, Marketing, etc.; facilitates production of new products both physical and digital; and proofreads and copy edits product content and marketing collateral created for new products.

You will sit directly with the Production & Editorial Team, work in close collaboration with Marketing, Sales, and Purchasing Teams and report to the Senior Manager, Production. 

Core Functions: 

  • Administer, organize, and monitor new projects through the editorial and production process.
  • Project manage new products: organize workflows and track status using Google docs and Asana; coordinate editors, artists, and engravers; create/proofread covers in InDesign; send titles to print or digital delivery platforms; and review printer proofs and approval copies.
  • Administer, monitor, alter, and proof reprints to ensure products are up to date and in stock.
  • Handle administrative functions related to sending projects to print, including requesting quotes from purchasing, coordinating file uploads with artists and engravers, sending notifications, and sending instructions for archiving and web assets to project members.
  • Schedule and lead art kickoff meetings, complete creative briefs and prepare copy, as well as facilitate the exchange of proofs and revisions.
  • Engrave music and proof and clean engravings from outside contractors for publication.
  • Hire and instruct outside contractors to deliver assets as needed for our projects.
  • Copy-edit new print projects for grammar and accuracy; format text, including style sheeting, to maintain house style.
  • Produce book interiors and graphics using InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop to support the Production team as needed.
  • Create and proof new repertoire in MakeMusic Cloud as needed.
  • Review proofs at various stages of production.
  • Create and maintain new product records in FileMaker and submit new contracts to the purchasing and business affairs departments.
  • Work closely with an assortment of internal and external personnel, including editors, designers, authors/composers, educators, performers, software developers.
  • Administer production and editorial invoices.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of music notation.
  • Ability to multitask with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; in-depth knowledge of grammar and punctuation.
  • Strong organizational and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency using Google Workspace tools, Adobe Creative Cloud (including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Distiller), Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, Excel), and FileMaker.
  • Degrees are not required and we value all forms of continued education including traditional four-year degrees, post-graduate degrees, associates degrees, bootcamps, online training, professional certifications, self-teaching and more.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Experience with project management.
  • Thorough and varied knowledge of music.
  • Proficiency with Excel or similar spreadsheet software.
  • Experience working in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Familiarity with language style guides, especially the Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Familiarity with style sheeting.
  • Prior experience in print publishing.

Compensation

Peaksware/Alfred Music is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The hourly compensation range for this role in Colorado is $22.20 - $36.99. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.

This role is eligible for variable compensation, including bonus.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment that is well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned with adequate ventilation and a noise level that is usually moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets.
