As a product developer on the soft goods team at Peak Design, you’ll have the opportunity to be a high impact player by owning several processes and stage gates of the product creation cycle. We need someone who has strong communication skills to convey the direction of the team with our vendor partners, the ability to build technical specification packages, and familiarity with product calendars as well as guiding teams to meet those goals.

In addition, we need someone who’s comfortable navigating ambiguity and can reliably solve the unexpected challenges that arise during the product development lifecycle.  In order to be successful in this role, you’ll need to be highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess a passion for product. We’re looking for a candidate who is hungry to create game-changing products, build a foundation of processes and systems, and add to our already established great culture.

What You'll Do

  • Communicate and work with design and product management partners to manage the development process for soft good products from initial concept to retail floor
  • Plan and track the development schedule of all products to ensure timely completion following the product development calendar
  • Ensure both the technical superiority and the product quality/integrity of all products falling under your responsibilities
  • Develop products, recommend materials, and execute construction techniques that meet design expectations as well as meet or exceed costing targets
  • Ensure execution of fit intent and fit consistency through clear analysis, documentation, communication, adherence to fit standards, and use of block patterns
  • Build specifications for products, and publishes and maintains all associated records, style files, and samples
  • Interact with various functions of the company such as marketing, sustainability, finance, etc. to aid in the distribution of product technical details and, costing, and assure the accuracy, legality, and integrity of all product performance claims

About You

  • 3-4 years of experience in technical design/product development in a medium or large size company, preferably in the outdoor industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fit, pattern-making, construction, and manufacturing processes
  • Superior interpersonal skills, including the ability to create trust with cross functional teams
  • Able to thrive in the unknown, and driven to improve processes and systems
  • Possess a working knowledge of Adobe illustrator, Photoshop, Google and Microsoft Suites
  • Able and willing to travel internationally and domestically 4-6 weeks out of the year
  • Able and willing to work 2-3 days per week in our San Francisco office (Dogpatch neighborhood).
  • You use and care a lot about gear (photography, outdoor, or other passion areas), and have strong opinions about the products that you use in your life and enjoy debating what makes them great
