Forward is hiring a

Product Designer (New Grad)

San Francisco, United States
Full-Time
As a designer at Forward, you have a unique opportunity to redesign healthcare from the ground up. Forward is on a bold mission to make high quality healthcare available at scale across the globe, with a vastly improved user experience—easier, more accessible, and massively more effective.

We’ve brought together hardware, software, and doctors under one roof, and we’re leveraging all that we’ve learned from modern medicine, consumer products, and developing advanced technologies to make progress. We’re intentionally a direct-to-consumer product, which gives us a single, clean incentive: provide the best possible healthcare for the lowest possible cost. By freeing ourselves from for-profit insurance companies, we’re able to focus purely on patient outcomes—and we believe our recently launched CarePods are a critical innovation for dramatically more effective and delightful care.

We’re looking for a product designer to join our tight-knit design team. You’ll have a key role in defining Forward’s user experience, developing novel products and services, and evolving our pioneering products. You’ll partner with an incredible group of world-class doctors, leaders, product managers, engineers and operators within a culture that deeply prioritizes design and user experience.

We’re funded by top investors, and since launching in 2017 have expanded nationwide. We’re looking for passionate, mission-oriented individuals to work with—we’re still just getting started.

What You'll Do:

  • Directly contribute to saving and improving lives. Your designs will impact the health decisions made by thousands of people — including those that wouldn't have access to care without Forward.
  • Democratize advanced healthcare with approachable consumer design. Transform sophisticated health diagnostics and leading clinical science into approachable, intuitive user experiences, ensuring every Forward member can lead and navigate their own healthcare journey with confidence and even delight.
  • Create immersive self-serve experiences in CarePods. Pioneer entirely novel healthcare experiences by developing self-service diagnostics that are comfortable, intuitive and engaging, including self-service blood draws and heart exams.
  • Design behavior change for lasting health. Craft experiences that educate and engage users in their health journey, using behavior change principles and novel touchpoints to drive meaningful lifestyle changes across the Forward mobile app and CarePod.
  • Empower clinical engineers with AI-enabled tools. Develop workflows that combine AI with human expertise, providing clinicians and engineers with tools to harness the world’s clinical knowledge and optimize data-driven clinical decisions.
  • Work on projects end-to-end and collaborate with a top-tier team of fellow designers from IDEO, Uber and more, and alongside founders, leaders, and PMs from Airbnb, Google X, Meta and elsewhere. You’ll also collaborate closely with our clinician team, operators, hardware engineers, and more.
  • Question norms and industry constraints to reinvent patient journeys. Nationwide, chronic disease is at record levels, while the cost of care is unacceptably high and doctor shortages are worsening. With CarePods and self-serve care the entire healthcare journey can and must be reinvented. You’ll be empowered to move with autonomy, support and urgency.

What We're Looking For:

  • A growth mindset with a bias to action and a desire to lean into big problems.
  • Design decisions grounded in first principles reasoning, user research, metrics, and business goals—as well as design principles.
  • The ability to embrace and navigate ambiguity — a lot of Forward is designed from scratch with a “what if?” mindset.
  • Thriving on cross-functional collaboration and shared successes. You’ll work closely with diverse teams and navigate complex constraints.
  • Product passion. You care about delivering great user experiences, from wireframes and storytelling to pixels, motion, audio and hardware.
  • Mission-led motivation with a desire to create lasting positive impact with your design skills
  • You care for the people, the team, and the business.  Colleagues want to work with you because you bring out the best in them and you help the team succeed.
  • A Bachelor or Masters in Design or HCI, with full-time or internship experience preferred. Experience with physical products is a plus but not required — we’ll help you learn.
