Product Designer, Elements

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Product Design team is composed of several teams that work together to help define, create, and deliver all user-facing aspects of the Stripe brand and product. Product Designers are strategic partners to Engineering and Product Management within a dedicated product area. In partnership with the product team, they help define the user-facing experiences our users encounter on Stripe products, then translate that thinking into a complete experience that can be tested, shipped, and refined. They are responsible for creating well-functioning and beautiful products and experiences that users love and are eager to recommend to others.

Elements is Stripe’s suite of UI building blocks, which allows users to create customized, secure payment experiences that drive conversion. Users can choose the Elements they need and match them to the look and feel of their site with CSS-level styling. Our design team has the unique challenge of balancing merchant integration needs with guardrails that result in seamless, beautiful consumer experiences.

What you’ll do

In this role, you’ll be embedded within the Elements team and work closely with engineers and product managers to define both the long-term strategy and the short-term tactics for our growing product suite.

Responsibilities

As an Elements designer, you’ll be working to evolve and grow the Elements UI suite on web and mobile SDKs to give users the right components for their payment experiences and help them integrate Elements to optimize conversion. Additionally, you’ll shape the system around the Elements suite to give users integration guidance, while maintaining the power to customize UI.

Some of the areas you would work on:

  • New capabilities for existing Elements, like automatic currency conversion
  • Discovery and definition of new Elements within and beyond the checkout experience
  • Evolution of Stripe’s Appearance API to support customization without compromising conversion optimization
