About our Design Systems Team

ADS is a multi-platform design system, and we provide the building blocks for Agoda and our white-label partners to build better products faster. We are a cross-functional team of designers, engineers, QA, accessibility experts and a product manager.

The Product Design Manager, Design Systems at Agoda is responsible for:

As a Product Design Manager at Agoda, you will be a key contributor to help us scale ADS to become a best in class design system. You’ll help our team lay scalable foundations, evolve our components and expand into new areas that can help Agoda unlock quality and efficiency in the organization. You will drive and continuously improve the collaboration with cross functional partners within our team, as well as makers across other product teams. Your work will impact 1000+ makers at Agoda and millions of customers around the globe. You’ll be expected to influence our strategy to ensure that the system evolves and continue to play a key role in how we build products at Agoda. You will ship well-crafted and accessible designs that help our stakeholders across design & engineering ship products with improved efficiency, quality & building products our users love.

Day to day, it looks like: 

As a Design System Manager, your role is pivotal in supporting design quality, fostering contribution models, and advancing the maturity of the design system while nurturing the career growth of designers within the team. 

Expertise: You bring a wealth of experience in developing design systems that strike a balance between flexibility, scalability, and usability. Your designs are crafted to scale seamlessly across various platforms and use cases. By applying systems thinking, you create reusable patterns that ensure consistency and coherence. You adeptly navigate competing needs and dependencies across teams to devise effective solutions that enhance the design system's maturity.

Advocating for Quality: Your attention to detail and expertise in best practices enable you to create clean, modern UI systems. You are a staunch advocate for accessibility, crafting elegant solutions that cater to users of all abilities across diverse devices. You leverage technical opportunities to deliver delightful designs while carefully weighing the trade-offs of implementation costs and long-term maintenance. Your deep understanding of our customers, coupled with data-driven decision-making, guides your efforts to measure success and drive continuous improvement.

Collaborate & Evangelize: In this highly collaborative role, you proactively engage with teams to identify needs, drive alignment, and generate enthusiasm for the adoption of the design system. You establish and enforce robust processes, ensuring alignment across teams with a clear and measurable impact. Additionally, you mentor mid-level and junior designers, guiding them to become proficient design systems designers and supporting their career growth within the team.

As a  Design System Manager at Agoda: 

• 8+ years of experience working in user experience, product, or relevant design field
• 4+ years experience working in an explicit design systems role
• 3+ years experience managing individual contributors working on Design Systems 
• Ability to plan and build the ROI case for a Design System within the Product & Engineering organizations
• Experience in building Design Systems at scale that foster a contribution model supported by agile scrum teams 
• A practiced and passionate Leader who is focused on supporting the career growth of designers and elevating their craft
• Ability to drive Design System strategy in-collaboration with your Product partners 
• Extensive understanding of frontend development (CSS, React, SwiftUI, Jetpack compose etc.)
• Expert-level understanding of  Agile and Scrum development methodologies 
• Extensive understanding of WCAG standards and how to implement them within a Design System 
• Extensive experience successfully designing, building, and maintaining design systems at scale within a large product organization
• Expert user interface and visual design skills
• Design Operations experience and ability to support Design System adoption, both behaviorally within Design and technically within code 
• Proficiency with relevant tools, standards and frameworks (Figma, Design Tokens, WCAG etc.)
• Experience working with distributed teams in multiple time zones and an affinity for designing and facilitating asynchronous collaborative work
• Past work experience showcasing the ability to define major workstreams, communicate a plan and success measurement framework, and then execute 
• The spidey sense to recognize patterns most people don’t see in the organization, and the ability to facilitate collaborative efforts to connect the dots
• Experience working with creative directors, motion designers, and illustrators as well as product designers, engineers, and product managers

• People focused leaders who value and enjoy supporting not only their direct reports but also Designers at all levels to improve their craft and develop their careers 
• Systems Evolution Experience: Past projects that demonstrate significant systems evolution or expansion, such as redesigns, theming, modes, platforms, or accessibility/internationalization (a11y/i18n).
• Consumer Product Design: Prior experience designing for consumer-facing products.
• Visual Design Skills: Strong visual design capabilities that enhance the overall design system.
