We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented attorney to join our legal team, to be responsible for procurement and related matters. The ideal candidate will manage and oversee procurement contract and supplier negotiations, administration, and compliance, ensuring that all contracts align with the company’s objectives and legal requirements. Over time, this role may expand, or prepare you to transition to other roles within the Legal department. This is a fully remote role.
What you will do:

Contract Drafting and Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate a breadth of procurement contracts, including supplier agreements, vendor agreements, service contracts, and purchase orders. Ensure that all contractual terms and conditions align with Coupa’s policies and legal requirements

Procurement Policy Development: Continuously improve contract management processes and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness

Training and Education: Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal aspects of procurement processes and contract management

Risk Management: Identify and assess legal, operational and practical risks associated with procurement activities. Develop strategies to mitigate potential risks and resolve legal disputes

Collaboration: Work closely with internal stakeholders, including procurement managers, compliance, security and finance teams, and senior leadership, to address legal issues and support procurement activities and strategies

Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and organized records of all procurement-related legal documents and correspondence

Supplier Management: Support the management of supplier relationships by providing legal guidance on issues such as performance disputes, contract breaches, and compliance matters
What you will bring to Coupa:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Admission to a state bar and in good standing
- 5+ years of in-house experience as an attorney, with a focus on procurement contracts
- Good business sense and a track record of advising business people on the impact of legal terms on the practical and economic aspects of a transaction
- Appreciation of the requirements for implementing and operationalizing a variety of sourced products or services, and the ability to partner with internal buyers, and other teams impacted by or involved with a procurement
- Experience with customer-facing contracts, or with risk management or compliance is a plus but not required
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple competing priorities simultaneously
- Willingness to partner with and to train other professionals on the legal team, and to expand your horizons and take on new responsibilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- High attention to detail
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to use data to measure results
- Experience related to technology companies is a plus
