Process Engineer

The Process Engineer will work intimately with critical manufacturing processes and equipment to produce EnPower’s battery cells enabled by key  electrode technology. As a result, the Process Engineer will work closely with the Cell Engineering Team and operations to produce large quantities of electrodes and battery cells. The Process Engineer will be responsible for providing feedback on the processability of electrodes and cells and at times recommend formulation or process changes to enable successful electrode and cell production. Expected duties may include dry powder mixing, slurry mixing, electrode coating, electrode calendaring, electrode slitting, sheet punching, cell stacking, tab welding, pouch forming, electrolyte filling, cell sealing and formation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate manufacturing processes based on quality criteria, such as efficiency and speed
  • Study production and machine requirements
  • Develop and test effective automated and manual systems
  • Design and install equipment
  • Organize and manage manufacturing workflows and resources
  • Integrate disparate systems (e.g. equipment handling, transport)
  • Optimize facility layouts, production lines, machine operations and network performance
  • Resolve issues and delays in production
  • Drive for high quality and high yield processes that meet the demands of the customer
  • Drive continuous improvement within the functional area
  • Find ways to maximize quality and reduce costs
  • Train staff in new and existing processes
  • Collaborate with other engineers, contractors and suppliers
  • Coating electrodes using production-scale slot-die coater and small-scale doctor-blade coater to precise coat weight loadings defined by Cell Engineering Team
  • Ensure that manufacturing procedures follow safety and environmental regulations
  • Upgrade systems and processes with new technology
  • Bachelor's degree in related field (Electrical/Mechanical/Computer Engineering); post-graduate degree is a plus
  • Previous experience as a manufacturing engineer or similar role a plus
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods and tool design
  • Familiarity with manufacturing equipment and quality assurance techniques
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following processes:
    • Powder Handling
    • Mixing
    • Roll to roll slot die, comma or gravure coating
    • Slitting and Calandering
    • Die punch operations
    • Welding processes laser or ultrasonic, heat sealing
    • Precision filling of liquid, vacuum filling or metered dispensing
    • Battery test and/or formation
  • Commitment to health and safety standards and environmental regulations
  • Well-versed in relevant software (e.g. CAD, MS Office)
  • Project management skills
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Teamwork skills
  • Ability to occasionally work late shifts
  • Able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. and perform the following for extended periods of time:
    • Standing or sitting
    • Climbing/squatting/walking
    • Repetitive motions and lifting)
