Recursion is at the forefront of reimagining drug discovery through the integration of automated cell biology, diverse and high-dimensional data sets, and advanced deep learning algorithms. We are seeking a talented and passionate Process Analytics Scientist to join the High Throughput Screening platform team and accelerate Recursion’s mission to build diverse, connected, and high quality maps of biology. As a Process Analytics Scientist, your primary responsibility is to ensure that all data generated from the high throughput multi-omics platform is of the highest quality required to power the Recursion OS. In addition, you’ll build the systems and tools to ensure this process is as industrialized as possible, while flexible to innovation. To accomplish this mission, you’ll need to forge strong partnerships with our data scientists, software engineers, and biologists to deeply understand the Recursion OS and develop lasting and scalable solutions. 

You are an independent thinker, analytical, and results-driven, with a proven track record of tackling projects with technical complexity and some ambiguity. In addition, you will be a strong leader, self-motivated, and someone able to forge lasting relationships with our collaborating teams. We are not the standard automation laboratory, and to succeed here we value creative problem solving to enable our mission, rather than simply apply industry standards to our processes. 

In this role, you will: 

Build a multi-omics analytics product with support from our Data Science, Biology, and Software Engineering teams

  • Collaborate with our Biology, Data Science, and Innovation & Scale-up teams to onboard new phenomics assays, new platform technologies, and new -omics modalities
  • Track and analyze metrics from experiments run on our HTS platform
  • Innovate and code new analytical tools, discrete simulations, and software applications to accelerate the quality and efficiency of our high throughput screening (HTS) platform
  • Generate new insights between our vast quantities of biological data and our high throughput automation platform

This hybrid position is based at our headquarters in Salt Lake City, UT. We offer a flexible hybrid model between working remote and on-site work. 

The Team You’ll Join 

Reporting to the Associate Director of Analytics & Controls, you’ll be an integral member of the Biology Platforms Team. This team operates in a fast-paced research operations environment that strives to leverage statistical principles, data visualizations, and biological principles to build high quality maps that further our mission to decode biology. 

This is the team that generates much of the 20+ petabytes of high quality, diverse, and foundational datasets that power the Recursion OS. In addition, this team partners closely with our Platform Development, , Data Science, and Biology teams to drive foundational advancements to our scientific technology stack. We are always looking for ways to innovate, and you’ll be a critical component of this mission. 

The Experience You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline with 5+ years experience OR master’s degree with 3+ years experience OR PhD with 1+ year experience in an analytics intensive role
  • Proficiency with programming tools: Python, R, SQL, Splunk and some experience with shared codebases, eg Git
  • Attention to detail and willingness to track down and troubleshoot complex problems
  • Strong quantitative skills with understanding of statistical principles, linear algebra, and experience with high-dimensional data is a plus
  • Understanding of laboratory automation, genetics, and primary human cell based assays is a plus
  • Clear understanding of experiment design and the scientific method
  • Strong data visualization skills through creation of plots, documentation and presentations
  • Curiosity and the professional skill-set to excel in an open and highly collaborative environment

  • Regular skip level 1:1s with department leads to drive multi-level collaboration
  • World class biologists, chemists, data scientists, machine learning scientists to partner and collaborate in this new frontier of drug discovery

At Recursion, we believe that every employee should be compensated fairly. Based on the skill and level of experience required for this role, the estimated current annual base range for this role is:

  • Developing: $108,000
  • Skilled: $120,000
  • Expert: $ 132,000

You will also be eligible for bonuses and equity compensation + our comprehensive benefits package for United States based candidates. The range displayed on each job posting reflects target ranges for US new hire salaries and is determined by job, level, and market factors.
