Principal Systems Administrator, IT Infrastructure

We are looking for a Principal Systems Administrator to manage and maintain the implementation, operations, and compliance of IT Infrastructure Systems. The Principal Systems Administrator, reporting to the Head of Infrastructure, is responsible for contributing to the overall technical architecture, design, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and network-related infrastructure. This individual is a thought leader, process-focused, detail-oriented, organized, and thorough.

What you’ll do

  • Contribute to a business-aligned technology roadmap
  • Implement technology solutions in response to large-scale projects and operational needs
  • Specify, install, and maintain physical and virtual servers, network, and storage equipment
  • Develop and maintain system installation/configuration procedures and standards
  • Manage and maintain networks and systems
  • Design and configure monitoring systems, maintaining system integrity and availability
  • Develop and implement automated systems to report and remediate vulnerabilities
  • Manage and monitor backup operations
  • Provide support for reactive issues as needed
  • Respond to system outages and incidents as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts for routine tasks
  • Troubleshoot a diverse range of office and lab computing devices and monitoring systems.
  • Coordinate with other technology groups to maintain critical system availability
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to implement solutions supporting company initiatives
  • Communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels to foster operational transparency
  • Contribute to the development of the IT vision and help translate the vision into goals and deliverables that support business objectives
  • Manage the engagement, delivery, and oversight of activities related to Infrastructure services provided by external vendors and service providers
  • Lead the evaluation and selection of systems and infrastructure solutions in conjunction with IT strategy and business requirements
  • Partner with the business areas to identify system requirements and translate business requirements into functional service projects, enhancements, and support
  • Conduct design review of systems and applications to ensure adherence with identified stability, performance, and security standards
  • Regulatory responsibilities per Good Clinical Practices, Good Laboratory Practices, and Good Manufacturing Practices

What we’re looking for

  • 10+ years of experience in IT, providing direct technical support for IT Infrastructure
  • 7+ years of IT experience in similarly sized, growing Biotech companies
  • Broad IT Infrastructure experience, with emphasis on Life Sciences-related systems delivery
  • Proven experience with managing and utilizing cloud infrastructure
  • Successful experience managing infrastructure such as Azure, AWS, Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, Okta, and NAS storage solutions
  • Knowledge or experience with the following infrastructure processes: DR and HA, Change Control, Maintenance management
  • Strong knowledge of GxP and the applicable regulatory requirements, data privacy practices, and laws, including FDA 21 CFR Part 11, SOX, as they relate to the management of IT Infrastructure
  • Must be able to handle changing and competing priorities where the path forward is not always clear at the outset and use good judgment in stressful situations
  • Must communicate well, both in writing and verbally, including success in communicating ideas in both technical and user-friendly language and technical writing skills
  • Results-oriented team player
  • Ability to operate in a cross-functional environment

What will separate you from the crowd

  • Experience with HIPAA
  • Knowledge of the ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) best-practice framework to enhance processes and procedures for delivering high-quality services aligned with business needs and objectives
  • Experience with Computer Systems Validation (CSV) and good documentation practices
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, influence, and communications skills with the proven ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, to both technical and non-technical audiences

What you should know 

  • The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $210,000 – 250,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
