Who We’re Looking For
An experienced Principal Software Engineer passionate about developing and managing application-level clinical and molecular data systems in an environment leveraging single and multi-tenant servers for the distributed and scalable compute and analysis on petabytes of data. This role requires expertise in computer science, software development, data management, and team leadership. The candidate will oversee a small team (5-10 engineers) and report to a Director of Engineering based in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of software engineers, focusing on clinical and molecular data applications in a SDLC framework.
- Translate roadmap-driven product specification requirements to technical requirements and builds.
- Develop and support CI/CD systems for application-level software.
- Support the team execution of builds through predictability, reliability, and timely delivery.
- Collaborate with US-based managers and executive leadership while respecting the CZ time zone.
- Advocate for and implement best engineering practices.
- Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented environment for junior and senior team members.
- 8+ years of software development experience.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in managing teams.
- Proficiency in coding and development tools: Python, Linux Shell, Bash, Git, Docker, SQL, and React.
- Proficiency in computing, such as cloud computing (e.g. AWS), distributed computing (e.g. Spark), and computing systems (e.g. Snowflake).
- Proficiency in data modeling, with a strong understanding of database management systems.
- Experience with leading end-to-end software development lifecycle for projects, best practices around agile delivery, automated testing and CI/CD, and continuous process improvements.
- Experience in global collaboration, particularly with US-based teams. Working in a distributed, remote-first environment with asynchronous communication comes naturally to you.
- Excellent English communication skills.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Ideally, at least some exposure to clinical and molecular data and/or data systems.
What We Care About
- Curiosity and humility. We are dedicated to learning and constantly improving. We hope you also value "unknown unknowns" and have a natural drive to figure out how everything works.
- Agility and ownership. Our teams have a high degree of freedom on how they build their systems, but they also take full ownership of what they deliver, in the long run.
- Proactivity. An internal drive to leave things in a better state than they are. Going above and beyond to help our codebase to stay healthy.
- Monitoring and automation. We strongly believe that a fully automated system is key to rapid iterations, while an extensive set of metrics highlights what needs to be done.
- Balancing research and product. We value staying up-to-date on cutting edge research, while also shipping meaningful products enabling researchers to fulfill their mission.
