Job Title: Principal Software Architect

General Summary:

The Principal Software Architect is responsible for developing high-quality, innovative, fully performing software in compliance with coding standards. This individual works in partnership with cross-functional teams to ensure that complex software deliverables, including designs, codes, and tests, are completed in a timely manner, while remaining aligned with industry and organizational standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Recommends operational strategies and plans for the Engineering team with direct impact on results

• Influences business decisions made by leadership

• Develops and implements new products, processes, standards, and/or operational plans that will have an impact on the achievement of functional results

• Provides support to the Engineering teams, with a high attention to detail

• May require communication with ConnectWise executive leadership on matters of strategic importance

• Designs, builds, and maintains large-scale production services, web applications, data pipelines, and streaming systems

• Works on complex systems critical to the company’s current and future operations

• Debugs production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack

• Manages improvement of organizational engineering standards, tooling, and processes

• Independently designs and delivers large complex plans and projects

• Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing, and certification of software

• Shapes architectural visions and long-term roadmaps for the organization

• Evaluates codes to ensure validity, proper structure, alignment with industry standards, and compatibility with operating systems

• Maintains an understanding of current technologies or programming practices through continuing education, reading or participation in professional conferences, workshops, or groups

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required:

• Ability to manage large projects and processes independently with no supervision

Deepen expertise in the backup and data protection domain, staying current with emerging technologies and trends.

• Design and implement microservices architectures, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.

• Ability to situationally adapt and understand new technology/processes as per business requirement

• Advanced ability to work constructively and independently under stress and pressure in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment

• Advanced ability to manage competing priorities while producing high quality work

• Strong organization and time-management skills with the ability to meet reasonable deadlines

• Strong ability to interact positively and openly with colleagues and external business contacts, with strong verbal and written communication skills

• Expert knowledge of programming languages (GO/JAVA) and software basics

• Expert knowledge of relevant software development tools including version control, build processes, debuggers, and test frameworks

Educational/Vocational/Previous Experience Recommendations:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent business experience

• 12+ years of relevant experience
