Principal Radar Systems Engineer

Tomorrow.io’s Space & Sensors team is responsible for the development of unique RF-based sensing systems, such as radars and radiometers, from architecture development through deployment to operational environments ranging from terrestrial to on-orbit. The team is also responsible for the  development of corresponding spacecraft and constellations in support of Tomorrow.io’s Operation Tomorrow Space, which will collect data to be integrated seamlessly into our existing forecasting and modeling systems, revolutionizing global weather intelligence.

We’re looking for a Principal Radar Systems Engineer to provide in-house expertise on the development of radar systems, particularly phased-array radar systems. As a Principal Radar Systems Engineer you will support and lead both internal and external resources to complete instrument development and deployment, while  designing, building and testing phased array systems hands-on.

What you’ll do:

  • Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of phased-array radar systems throughout the Space & Sensors department, particularly for our satellite and airborne-based precipitation radar systems
  • Work across the full breadth of architecture and design
  • Hands-on testing, debugging, and problem solving
  • Develop hardware (Ka-band radar systems) that is operationally deployed into low Earth orbit
  • Work in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment

What you bring:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or similar field
  • 10+ years of experience with radar systems, including substantial phased array experience
  • Thorough understanding of RF subsystems and components in the 1 GHz to 100 GHz range
  • Demonstrated experience modeling and analyzing phased array systems
  • Understanding of digital systems, signal generation, and acquisition
  • Experience with radar signal processing (secondary to system design/deployment)
  • Expertise in analysis of radar data and test measurement data using Python or Matlab
