Principal Product Manager - Data Platforms

We are looking for an experienced Product Manager who is skilled in framing problems, setting priorities for product teams, and ensuring quality data products are delivered for Version 1 clients and their end users, to lead Product Management for data platforms.

Working closely with senior stakeholders at project and programme level within Version 1 client organisations, you will influence and provide strategic direction on problem definition, product vision and development for data platforms. You will also work with Agile cross-functional product teams to define and prioritise product outcomes and ensure their successful delivery.

  • Define the problem to be solved, the product vision and strategy for the data/analytics platform, in line with evolving business and user needs.
  • Create and define capabilities needed within the data platform to meet the client’s internal needs.
  • Manage the product roadmap and programme backlog that outlines the vision, goals, and key capabilities, balancing user needs with client goals and technical feasibility.
  • Lead and define the strategic direction for a global data platform.
  • Oversee Data Platform SMEs (Data Science, Engineering, Geospatial, Corporate Services and Sustainability).
  • Deliver product management activities: product strategy, gather and manage demand; define key capabilities for the platform; manage product roadmap and backlog; lead product development process; engage with business to gather feedback, validate ideas and ensure alignment between user needs and business goals.
  • Experience in business cases and value analysis; product road mapping.
  • Track record of successfully delivering digital products and/or services
  • Strong knowledge of data platforms, management and governance for modern data platforms.
  • Understanding the eco-system, the problem to be solved, and creating a product vision and strategy to solve the problem.
  • Ability to articulate the problem, help others to understand its impact and share the vision effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Challenging stakeholders and product teams to overcome barriers and achieve better results for the users and the client organisations within policy, legislative, scope or commercial constraints.
  • Creating and owning a prioritised, achievable product roadmap for a single product and portfolio of products.
  • Collaborating with user research, service design, content design, and technology teams to ensure the service and products are designed for the people who use it and deliver the best outcomes.
  • Skilled in product and service development using Agile practices and development frameworks (Scrum, Kanban), and can promote best practice across product teams including implementing solutions for assisted digital users.
  • Able to realise the benefit of a product, how it integrates with other systems or services and align benefits to user needs and business goals.
  • Experienced at identifying key stakeholders, tailoring communication to their needs, influencing their decision-making and acting as a trusted advisor.
