ABOUT THIS POSITION
Fluence, the global market leading energy storage technology company, is looking for a Principal Power Systems Engineer with extensive experience with grid-connected power converters and the use of storage on the transmission system to provide grid support. This position is within the Technology Team and will focus on power systems product development and design for cutting edge Fluence Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), particularly the major components of the inverters and the Fluence control system.
Your responsibilities will include:
•Serve as the power systems technical expert on a team designing Fluence’s energy storage products for power system support, targeted at utility and grid operator customers.
•Develop detailed product requirements, lead system level product design, and develop test plans for power system support applications
•Provide expertise in the area of understanding of power system stability issues and control schemes for grid-connected power system support
•Lead evaluations of the interaction between the BESS power converter systems (PCS) and the utility/grid under a broad range of system events and operating conditions.
•Design and develop new products and product features to advance BESS capabilities to provide support for the high voltage power system.
•Actively work and provide support to both internal customers such as sales, engineering and business development teams and external customers such as ISOs, energy producers and utilities in the use of Fluence BESS models
Skills & Qualifications

- Doctorate Degree in electrical engineering with an emphasis on power systems and/or transmission systems and 10-15 years of work experience
- Experienced in simulating and evaluating power converter systems with knowledge of power system issues (e.g. FRT behaviour) and interaction between power electronics and power system equipment
- Extensive expereince with “grid forming” operation of inverters and the use of converters to support power grid stability
- Proficient in power system analysis and control simulation tools (e.g., PSS®E, PowerFactory, PSCAD/EMTDC, MATLAB® Simulink®, PSLF)
- Strong programming skills in Python, Fortran, C++ etc.
- Knowledge of utility grid interconnection standards, such as European and UK grid codes, UL/IEEE standards, North American ISO/RTO requirements
