Purpose of the Role

Xodus are seeking a senior environmental consultant with a strong track record in marine industries who is looking to build on a portfolio of project management and leadership in environmental approvals. This role (either full or part time) provides opportunities to work across multiple industries and topic opportunities and take a senior delivery position within a supportive and friendly team environment.

Xodus boasts a thrilling mix of clients and projects across various sectors, including oil and gas production, offshore wind, carbon capture and storage, hydrogen, cables and interconnectors, decommissioning, and decarbonisation. Our team is a blend of seasoned specialists in technical receptor topics alongside industry experts and regulatory leaders. Equally important to us are the versatile skills in technical, project, and people management that experienced environmental approvals professionals bring. Their finely-tuned talents are invaluable as they contribute to our energy projects, ensuring top-notch quality in every aspect of our delivery.

We are seeking established industry professionals who are able to provide advice to our clients across the project lifecycle. Our ideal colleague would have a full understanding of the Commonwealth approvals process and experience in engaging with NOPSEMA and the OIR. We are seeking professionals who are comfortable supporting and mentoring early and mid-career consultants, and who have experience in engaging with clients and project delivery at across this project life cycle.

Requirements

  • Taking the lead on exciting and diverse projects, handling environmental approvals for various marine energy and coastal initiatives such as oil and gas activities, offshore wind, interconnectors and cables, as well as CCS and efforts towards decarbonisation. This includes providing strategic advice and engaging with regulators.
  • Cultivating relationships with stakeholders and clients for projects while promoting and enhancing industry standards and practices.
  • Creating high quality reports and presentations, along with overseeing quality assurance and quality control responsibilities.
  • Innovating new strategies for environmental approvals in Commonwealth waters.
  • Applying knowledge to provide project-focused solutions for State water environmental approvals.
  • Nurturing talent by developing, mentoring, and upskilling colleagues.
  • Collaborating with specialists in ecology and engineering to deliver integrated project scopes; and
  • Playing a key role in shaping business development strategies and implementing action plans, which includes identifying and securing important projects.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A strong background in a senior role (such as Project Manager, Project Sponsor, or Specialist) with comprehensive experience in navigating the full approvals process for Australian Commonwealth waters.
  • Experience leading teams and collaborating in a cohesive manner to successfully deliver Environmental Plans (EP), Offshore Project Plans (OPP), and/or Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).
  • Skillful in providing expert advice to clients and fostering strong stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, including winning proposals and expanding professional networks.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, along with strong abilities in quality assurance, organisation, and time management.
  • Expertise in a relevant specialist area, such as fish ecology, ornithology, or marine mammals, or within specific industries like oil and gas, offshore wind, CCS, or cables.
  • Demonstrated experience in a consultancy setting or clear transferable skills.
  • Experience in line management or team leadership.
