Your Role
As a Principal Engineer will you be a key technical leader working across multiple teams. You will use your deep technical experience to design solutions and define the architecture of software systems in the eCommerce domain. Stakeholders will see you as a go-to person for technical insights and decisions. You will lead by example and foster a culture of excellence by considering the needs of users, business goals, and both functional and non-functional requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for eCommerce projects.
- Design, architect, and lead implementation of end-to-end eCommerce experiences that meet the highest standards of security, performance, scalability, accessibility, and user experience.
- Lead cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of front-end components with back-end systems.
- Mentor and guide teams of onsite and offshore engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior executives and business leaders.
- Accountability for the quality of the delivery and ensuring best practices are followed across the software development lifecycle.
Desirable skills, knowledge, and experience
- A proven track record as a Principal Engineer or a Tech Lead within retail eCommerce ecosystems.
- Comprehensive experience working with modern software engineering practices like CI/CD, automation testing, observability, and infrastructure as code.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity; a strong ownership mindset, and a desire to thrive on minimal oversight and process.
- A passion for quality and a pragmatic approach, being able to clearly understand and articulate tradeoffs between different solutions.
- Knowledge of best practices around security, threat models, and what represents a good security posture.
- Experience working across frontend and backend systems, with a good understanding of networking and protocols.
- Excellent software engineering skills in multi-language settings including TypeScript, Kotlin or Java, and Swift.
- Technical Communication: Ability to convey technical concepts in easily understandable language, taking both technical and business stakeholders on a journey.
- Architectural Knowledge: Deep understanding of eCommerce ecosystems and Omnichannel experiences.
- Stakeholder Management: Comfortable communicating with senior stakeholders and C-level executives.
Bonus points
- Experience with leading eCommerce technologies such as Commercetools, BigCommerce, Shopify, Fluent Commerce, Fredhopper, and others; as well as Content Management systems like Contenful and ContentStack.
- Exposure to large eCommerce ecosystems in fashion, financial services, gaming, or retail supply chain & logistics.
- Consulting experience, including building work pipelines and generating new business opportunities.
- Proven track record in change management, particularly technology changes that impact people and business operations.
- Experience in streamlining processes to improve business or operational objectives.
