Development & Engineering Group
The Development & Engineering (D&E) team drives the technology, innovation and new development of data center infrastructure across Vantage’s companywide portfolio. D&E evaluate new sites, drives cost and schedule in line with corporate goals and serve as subject matter experts across the entire project lifecycle from concept through commissioning. The team collaborates with Sales, Operations and management along the way. D&E also work hand in hand with the Construction team to come up with a vertically integrated design and ensures new and existing standards and designs are executed effectively. One thing that distinguishes Vantage is that our technical staff is given the responsibility and authority to directly drive tangible results. Our team can align long-term operational sustainability with value engineering and cost metrics to deliver products aligned with corporate goals unlike external resources. Position Overview

Vantage is looking for an engineer to lead design and engineering for the largest individual cost center within the construction process and become engaged in all technical aspects, with specialized focus on electrical infrastructure. You will be presented with complex engineering challenges and be asked to bring them to resolution with all the tools at your disposal. You will architect, engineer and design new products, system topologies and ensure standards are executable for each project. You will evaluate designs and provide engineering analysis to balance CAPEX and OPEX costs, quality, and speed to market.

Vantage has a very collaborative work environment, and you will need to assume responsibility to interface and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, customers and contractors. Vantage’s D&E team is engaged in the company’s sales process and we leverage our internal engineers to cater our product offerings to meet the ever-evolving needs of our customer base. This means you will work with the subject matter experts of our customers to translate requirements to tangible solutions. Your role will have a meaningful impact on the bottom-line profitability and success of the company.

Essential Job Functions

  • Architect electrical system topology to select best solutions to meet business objectives around cost, speed, sustainability and quality
  • Drive innovation of Vantage’s competitive advantage through implementation of emerging technologies, product development, and patents
  • Develop and maintain global engineering standards at a program level.
  • Oversee review process of engineering studies of all types
  • Visit job sites for field investigations and coordination meetings
  • Assist in technical assessment of assets for merger and acquisition opportunities
  • Provide Subject Matter Expect support to regional teams.
  • Coordinate with regional teams to determine lesson learnt and updates which should be incorporated within the global standard documents.
  • Manage document update logs and process to approval.

Duties

  • Provide oversight and review of program level design plans, equipment and system submittals
  • Review and coordinate equipment submittals for OFCI (Owner Furnished Contractor Installed) equipment, ensure interdisciplinary coordination is completed. · Ensure consistent design execution through coordination and handoff to internal and external project direct resources for site adaptation of program prototype
  • Coordinate heavily with internal engineering team across all disciplines to ensure products delivered to Operations is streamline and optimized to meet the needs of the business across all functions
  • Conduct value engineering analyses, and provide system recommendations based on ROI and IRR analysis · Participate in product development process flow from idea to implementation and work with team to apply for and obtain patents for the company to retain its IP
  • Develop and maintain sustainability benchmarking and innovations to incorporate sustainable technology in a cost-effective manner. · Attend project design team meetings and ensure product constructed meets engineering standards and specifications
  • Work closely with Operations to find a balance between cost-effective solutions & operational sustainability
  • Develop and/or set minimum requirements for complete sequence of operations for all designed systems
  • Utilize engineering analysis to critically evaluate:
  • Load Analysis and Failure Scenario Calculation Short-circuit and overcurrent protection device coordination studies
  • Arc Flash mitigation studies
  • Distribution analysis, including voltage drop and underground duct bank heat effect (Neher-McGrath) calculations
  • Lighting photometric studies
  • Drive standards for electrical commissioning efforts
  • Support Sales during tours, RFP response, provide technical subject matter expertise, and coordinate customer build to suit solutions
  • Additional duties as assigned from time to time by management

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university or college
  • 10 years of experience in electrical power design and construction required, 15+ years preferred
  • Registration as a US-based Professional Engineer (P.E.), or UK Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.) required
  • Data Center and/or mission critical experience is required
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Excel, Word, AmpCalc and ETAP modeling software
  • Working knowledge of critical power infrastructure within a data center
  • Working knowledge of all building and fire codes ordinances, including NEC and NFPA
  • Travel required is expected to be 15-25%, but may increase over time as the business evolves

Compensation:

  • Salary Range: $135,000 - $150,000 Base + Bonus
  • This position is eligible for company benefits including but not limited to medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and AD&D, short and long-term disability coverage, paid time off, employee assistance, participation in a 401k program that includes company match, and many other additional voluntary benefits.Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
