About the Role

Steer is seeking to fill an opening in its India office for a Principal Consultant with prior transportation transaction advisory and project management experience. Candidates for this position should be highly motivated with a strong capability for critical thinking, a broad range of quantitative research and analysis skills, considerable proficiency using software packages and a particular interest in transportation.

The India office of Steer has been successfully operating for 7 years. We offer a small office environment and the possibility to work on a wide variety of high profile transportation projects including toll roads transaction advisory. The candidate will support the core India team to deliver existing projects and to develop a portfolio of new clients within infrastructure transaction market. He/she will be expected to work effectively with project teams across our international offices and be able to travel in India and overseas if required. Fluency in English is essential.

 

Key Accountabilities:

The candidate will be required to:

·        Deliver effective proposals and engage in business development, in order to support work winning for the team;

·        Manage and deliver successful projects (time, cost, quality) as Project Manager;

  • Manage and deliver toll road traffic and revenue studies for major transport infrastructure projects
  • Undertake technical analysis, report writing and presentations to clients
  • Deliver effective, high-quality proposals and engage in business development in the India and overseas
  • Manage, supervise and coach junior members of the team
  • Contribute to technical discipline development activities
  • Proven ability in leading transaction advisory projects to a successful conclusion
  • Understanding of the transport infrastructure transaction advisory market or prior experience of advising private sector clients in toll road transactions will be an advantage
  • Strong analytical, report writing and communication skills
  • Client facing and/or client-side experience
  • Work winning experience
  • Experience in freight/port/airport transactions will be an advantage
  • Commercial due diligence experience of transport transactions

 

Foreign language skills (in particular, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German) is a plus.

 

Work Environment

Compensation

Steer is committed to ensuring that all its employees are compensated a fair, competitive wage. All initial compensation, regardless of location, may be subject to change as skills, abilities, internal equity and geographic location are taken into account.

In addition to base salary, all employees will be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus. Please review the benefits section for more information on total reward.

Steer reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional compensation.

Requirements

Candidates will:

·        Have relevant prior transportation and infrastructure transaction advisory work experience spanning 7 to 12 years, preferably having advised private sector clients in toll roads traffic and revenue studies;

·        Be educated to degree level from one of the following disciplines - Economics, Mathematics, Operational Research, Engineering, Transport Planning, Geography, or other numerical or transport-related subject;

·        Ideally hold an Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline, but this is not essential;

·        Have demonstrable project management experience including the ability to deliver high quality, profitable work within project deadlines;

·        Have strong skills in data cleaning and analysis across a range of software packages (e.g. MS Excel, Stata, SPSS, R);

·        Have strong communications skills including:

-  experience in communicating effectively with clients;

-  the ability to back up opinions with well-constructed, evidenced arguments; and

-  the ability to confidently explain complex analysis to non-specialists via reporting and presentations; and

·        Have experience of delivering successful projects, across a range of transport transactions and geographies.
