Hermeus is an aerospace and defense technology company founded to radically accelerate air travel by delivering hypersonic aircraft. The company aims to develop hypersonic aircraft quickly and cost-effectively by integrating hardware-rich, iterative development with modern computing and autonomy. This approach has been validated through design, build, and test of the company’s first combined turbojet-ramjet engine and is now being scaled through its first flight vehicle program, Quarterhorse. Hermeus is also developing Darkhorse — an uncrewed hypersonic aircraft designed to deliver unique asymmetric capabilities to the warfighter.
We are currently seeking a Principal Avionics Engineer to be a part of our team.
As a Principal Avionics Engineer, you will be responsible for requirements generation and decomposition, architecture development, build, integration, and test of avionics hardware systems associated with our data-acquisition stack, compute stack, and network architecture. You will be responsible for internal cross-functional collaboration as well as collaboration with external supplies and partners for avionics component selection, procurement, and integration
Responsibilities
- Avionics System Design and Integration
- Lead the design, development, and integration of avionics systems for high-speed aircraft, including the data-acquisition stack, compute stack, and network architecture
- Collaborate closely with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integratino of avionics systems with aircraft subsystems
- Technical Expertise and Innovation
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in avionics technologies, tools, and techniques relevant to high-speed aircraft
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the avionics engineering team, promoting professional development and knowledge sharing
- Cross-functional collaboration
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, and software, to ensure integration of avionics systems into the overall aircraft architecture
- Collaborate with external suppliers and partners for avionics component selection, procurement, and integration
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
- Extensive experience (7 years) in avionics engineering
- Proven track record in designing, developing, and certifying avionics systems for aerospace applications
- Deep understanding of avionics technologies, systems engineering principles, and industry standards (e.g. DO-178, DO-254)
