Postdoctoral Researcher - Heterogeneous Compute and Memory Intensive Hardware Architecture

We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher with background in computer architecture to perform research on high-performance heterogeneous architecture components and related software/hardware systems.  You will work independently as a technical expert in high performance computing architectures and will interact with other researchers in heterogeneous architectures as well as other architecture, compiler, performance optimization, and applications researchers.   This position is in the Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC) Division within the Computing Principal Directorate.

You Will

  • Research, design implement, and evaluate advanced architectural components of future exascale systems, including memory intensive and compute acceleration components, through simulation, emulation, and prototyping.
  • Research, design, and implement runtime systems and libraries to manage heterogenous processors and memories.
  • Interact with co-design teams to better understand application needs in compute and memory access.
  • Document research by publishing papers in peer-reviewed media and presenting papers within the DOE community and at conferences.
  • Contribute to group grant proposals, including proposal presentations and preparation of proposals that will provide future research opportunities in the field.
  • Participate in the establishment of future research directions.
  • Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally to define and carry out the research.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with computer architecture modeling and simulation, advanced heterogenous and memory-intensive architectures, system software, or related field.
  • Familiarity with performance measurement and analysis tools, OS interfacing and runtime libraries.
  • Broad experience with software development environment, including C++ or Python.
  • Broad experience in research ability, as documented by publications, reports, and presentations.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate in a team environment, to present and explain technical information, document work, prepare and present proposals and research papers, and provide advice to management.
  • Comprehensive analytical and problem-solving skills necessary to craft creative solutions and solve complex problems with limited direction.

Desired Qualifications

  • RISC-V simulator experience.
  • Familiarity with HPC systems, specialized IP blocks integrated with CPU, and experience with memory intensive computing applications.
  • Knowledge of parallel programming models.

Position Information

This is a Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years, open to those who have been awarded a PhD at time of hire date.
