Portfolio Lead

As we continue to grow, we are now looking for an experienced leader to join the team who has led and managed product portfolios, ideally in excess of $50m in the life sciences field. Reporting into the VP of Product and leading a team of product managers, you will be responsible for developing and delivering disease specific Portfolio strategies ( covering at least one of Immuno-Oncology, Oncology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Epigenetics or Metabolism) to maximize the value of abcam’s product strategy.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strong, ambitious global strategy for abcam’s Portfolio strategy that positions for growth across all product categories and custom service offerings, aligned with customer needs.
  • Own the development and positioning of the value proposition for the Portfolio. Work closely with Growth Marketing teams to inform and support the planning and execution of marketing activities to deliver Portfolio strategy success and sustainable growth, across all areas of marketing activities
  • Own revenue and margin and longer-term financial targets of the designated Portfolio supported by global list pricing, regional discounting strategies and promotions in consultation with Growth Marketing and Sales to meet or exceed budget
  • Drive the successful delivery against the Portfolio strategy
  • Work closely with R&D teams on approach (in-house, OEM, in-licensing), optimal product mix, and prioritization of Portfolio needs across all of abcam’s NPD pipelines, to ensure resources are agreed and allocated in alignment with Portfolio needs and goals to deliver on strategy in near, mid and long-term
  • Work with Emerging Business, R&D and other Portfolio Leads to monitor and analyze global customer needs, market insight and competitor trends, using these as inputs to drive successful development and delivery of a differentiated, market leading Portfolio strategy with commercialization plans via all channels and in all regions in which Abcam operates
  • Support the management and continuous improvement in partnership with Supply Chain and Manufacturing to deliver smooth business planning processes for near, mid and long-term strategies that will support the successful execution of the Portfolio strategy
  • Continue to develop and engage with abcam’s KOL and collaboration networks, to inform the needs of researchers and ensure that changes in trends or emerging needs are readily adapted to, as part of the Portfolio strategy and continue to build advocacy for the Portfolio and brand, through these collaborations
  • Support the global sales teams through training and understanding of the Portfolio value proposition to optimize sales channel output and provide scientific support on the portfolio in customer meetings, to maximise opportunity potential and customer affinity to abcam

You have a degree in a life sciences discipline with broad practical knowledge of the life science tools and reagents sector.

You will have strong knowledge of disease areas (experience in one or more of Immuno-Oncology, Oncology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Epigenetics, Metabolism), with experience in Product Management, Product Marketing or Strategy Development in the Life Sciences industry. You will understand the needs that customers working in the field are looking for when considering proteomic tools for their research.

You are a strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to translate strategies into actionable plans and work closely with cross-functional teams to realize successful outcomes and sustainable growth for the Portfolio and abcam. You have analytical and data-driven approach to building commercialization plans and then pivoting or optimizing to exploit or mitigate external or internal factors to meet customer needs, sustain growth and meet budget.

You are a strong team player and able to build credibility at the senior level, and lead and motivate international cross-functional teams.

The role requires occasional domestic and international travel.
