The Maine Sleep Center at Chest Medicine Associates, an AASM-accredited facility, is seeking a Polysomnographic Technologist for part-time night shift(s) to be based in the South Portland office. 

Requirements of the Polysomnographic Technologist

  • Minimum 1 year of experience and PSG scoring proficiency.
  • For Polysomnographic Technologists, certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists or RRT-SDS credential is required.
  • RRTs must have State of Maine licensure.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider certification is required.
  • Excellent clinical, communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Pediatric experience is desirable.
  • Opportunities to work one or two, 12-hour overnight shifts per week are available.

Responsibilities of the Polysomnographic Technologist:

  • Review the patient’s history and verify the medical order.
  • When patient arrives, verify identification, collect documents, and obtain consent for the study.
  • Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history).
  • Follow sleep center protocols or physician order.
  • Explain the procedure and orient the patient for in-center testing.
  • Provide age-appropriate patient education.
  • Select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and adjust if necessary. Apply electrodes and sensors according to protocol or generally accepted standards.
  • Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.
  • Perform diagnostic polysomnography.
  • Perform CPAP/Bi-level/ASV/VAPS titration studies.
  • Perform MSLT/MWT.
  • Score studies in accordance with AASM standards.
