Position Summary:

Pioneering Medicines is seeking a creative, motivated, and highly collaborative Scientist to join the biology-pharmacology team. The ideal candidate should have a passion for science and medicine with prior hands-on experience in drug discovery or metabolic disease research. The incumbent will support the screening, characterization, and mechanism of action studies for various drug candidates like small molecules and/or nucleic acid-based therapeutics.  

The ideal candidate needs to have an understanding of in vitro & ex vivo biology & pharmacology, with a track record of defining critical decision-driving experiments and developing robust assays across therapeutic areas related to metabolic diseases driving programs to go/no go decision points. They will show the ability to excel in a fast-collaborative multidisciplinary environment and have strong written and oral communication skills. We are looking for a team player who embraces our core values of putting people and patients first, working hard and strategically in a professional R&D environment that encourages growth and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a functional lead for designated project(s) to define, develop, and implement appropriate assays to support PM’s pipeline
  • Develop cell-based assays using human & rodent cell types like adipocytes, myocytes, peripheral blood cells, primary cells, iPSCs and/or organoids, as well as ex vivo experiments to support in vitro pharmacology and translational studies.
  • Work with colleagues of the in vitro, in vivo, and translational teams to support PM’s research projects and daily laboratory operations.  
  • Always value and contribute to teamwork across internal functional units and with external collaborators to advance programs from research to the clinic.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Fresh PhD or MSc degree with 5+ years of research experience in biology or a related scientific area. Industry experience preferred.
  • Extensive training in cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology.

Other Qualifications:

    • Extensive experience with cell culture including primary & immortalized mammalian cells or iPSC-derived cell systems is essential.
    • Hands-on experience in in vitro assays with an emphasis on metabolism is a must.
    • Relevant industrial experience is a plus.
    • Familiarity with genetic-based approaches such as CRISPR and RNA interference; and general laboratory techniques including qPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, MSD, flow cytometry, confocal-microscopy, and metabolic assays.
    • Working knowledge of in vitro pharmacology, including handling of candidate compounds, dose response, potency, and efficacy studies.
    • Understanding of general drug discovery process, from target identification and validation through regulatory filing.
    • Prior experience working with cross disciplinary internal and external scientific teams (e.g., CROs, academic collaborators) is a plus
    • Track record of successful research outcomes especially data analysis and summarization, exemplified by publications, presentations, and/or contributions to drug discovery programs
    • Ability to clearly communicate scientific data with the team and stakeholders, and perform detailed documentation of experimental results via ELN (Electronic Lab Notebook)
    • Proficient in scientific software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, FlowJo) is required.
