Status: Casual, 0.1 FTE (guaranteed 3.5 hours per week)

Salary Scale: $ 138.05- $165.13 hourly plus 8% vacation pay in lieu of benefits

Start Date: Immediately

Position Description:

The Physician is a member of the Integrated Health Services Program at the Centre and based within the Oasis Team.  The candidate will be serving a complex urban population, particularly individuals experiencing substance use disorders (SUDs) and plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive and compassionate primary care. Their responsibilities encompass a range of clinical, educational, and collaborative duties aimed at addressing the multifaceted needs of this community. 

This role works closely with team members to provide the highest quality of health care services to clients. The role of the Physician is to work with clients to help them achieve desired health goals.

Reporting Relationship:

The Physician is directly accountable to the Director of Integrated Health Services and is part of a team-based care clinic.  Although housed within the Oasis Clinic, they may be asked to provide primary care within the adjacent primary care services in the Centre.

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the licensing and regulatory requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario as the professional governing body.

Requirements

Skills, Education and Experience: 

Requirements for this position include:

Education and Language

  • Medical degree and family medicine residency from a recognized university
  • CCFP Certification from the Canadian College of Family Practice
  • License to practice from the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons
  • Under the Centre’s designation to provide French Language Services, this position is designated bilingual essential:
    • French (oral expression): Advanced+
    • French (oral comprehension): Superior
    • French (reading comprehension): Advanced
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written

 

Professional Experience

  • Three to five years’ experience in a community-based primary care setting
  • Experience working with a range of populations, including persons living or at risk of HIV/Hep C, persons experiencing significant barriers to health including homelessness, marginalized populations, persons living with mental health and substance use disorders, persons engaged in sex work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to and knowledge of community-based health care.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment including medical and social services.
  • Knowledge of the impact of the social determinants of health on HIV, hepatitis C and addictions and mental illness.
  • Experience working within a harm reduction approach
  • Experience in mental health and addictions.
  • Proficient in the provision of prescribing and managing medications such as buprenorphine or methadone as part of OAT, monitoring patient progress and adjusting treatment plans to ensure safety and efficacy.
  • Knowledge of HIV and hepatitis C treatment is an asset.
