We're looking to hire a skilled PCB Layout Engineer to join our electronics team and contribute to the development of quantum technologies. Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of PCB designs, from concept to realization.
- Design high-end PCBs adhering to industry standards, including HDI and high pad count BGA layouts.
- Manage component libraries and Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Create thorough documentation for PCB designs, ensuring easy handoff and reference.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, software engineers, and physicists, to achieve common goals.
- Define and manage all the related PCB / PCBA processes to ensure the quality of our designs.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in electronics to maintain UQ’s position at the forefront of technology.
- Assist in project planning, scheduling, and reporting on progress and challenges.
- Participate in fast turn-around proof-of-concept projects and feasibility studies.
Requirements
The 3 Most Critical Attributes We’ll Use to Compare Candidates
- Proficiency in PCB schematic and layout design using PCB/CAD tools, with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and layout debugging.
- Good understanding of electronics circuit theory, including EM field theory, noise analysis, and physical device knowledge.
- Extensive experience in library management and BOM management for PCB and PCBA designs.
Must-have Skills
- 5 to 8 years’ experience in PCB design using ECAD tools like Altium or similar.
- Experience in high-performance PCB and PCBA design, including HDI and complex BGA layouts.
- Strong understanding of software application for BOM management.
- Experience in working with suppliers and contractors.
- Strong discipline in thorough documentation practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a team-oriented mindset.
- Minimum 2.1 BEng/BSc Degree in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
Nice-to-have Skills
- Experience in designing flex and rigid-flex PCBs.
- Background in engineering, research, metrology, or instrumentation.
- Basic understanding of signal integrity, high-speed digital design, and EMC.
- Pragmatic approach to decision-making and design choices.
- Experience in team and/or project management.
