The Role:
Thrasio is seeking an exceptional US Payroll & Benefits Manager to manage all aspects of payroll as we rapidly grow and scale across existing and new geographies. The US Payroll & Benefits Manager will be a key partner in developing and implementing strategies to scale payroll operations, systems, and controls domestically and internationally. This role will work in close partnership with People Ops, ensuring a consistent and integrated approach with respect to Finance and HR processes and solutions. Additionally, the US Payroll Manager is responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are followed in compliance with company and legislative requirements.
Responsibilities Include:
- Develop and drive the strategic vision for the Payroll function, including scaling and optimizing payroll administration, processes, and systems globally to support a high-growth company.
- Facilitate the accurate and timely processing of semi-monthly and biweekly payrolls in Workday for ~120 to 150 US employees.
- Provide oversight and direction to various finance leads with respect to outsourced payroll solutions.
- Review audit reports for unexpected variances prior to approving payroll processing.
- Ensure garnishments are submitted and executed within the Workday.
- Ensure data integrity within the HRIS system (payroll data, cost center structure, alignment across internal systems, etc.)
- Design and implement controls to monitor and audit changes to Workday HRIS information.
- Facilitate year-end tax filings for federal, state, and local jurisdictions through payroll outsourcing service providers.
- Document all payroll processes and maintain documentation for business continuity.
- Prepare monthly payroll-related account reconciliations.
- Act as primary contact for payroll providers; provide proper oversight to all external payroll partners/providers and escalate issues when necessary.
- Act as primary contact for US benefits vendors for day-to-day administration of US benefits processes; provide proper oversight to all external providers and escalate issues when necessary.
- Partner with various areas of People Ops, including Total Rewards, People Technology, and People Services teams for effective delivery of services.
- Provide the highest level of customer service to employees.
- Manage and resolve payroll-related employee service tickets.
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting.
- Work in tandem with both People and Finance leaders to ensure a high level of communication and transparency.
- Drive continuous improvement and efficiencies through best-in-class enhancements to processes and controls for payroll-related activities.
- Collaborate with People Ops on designing/updating and implementing payroll-related policies and controls (financial and operational) to ensure data integrity, minimize errors, and reduce risk of fraud.
- Produce ad hoc reporting and analysis that provides insights that enable and inform decision-making.
What You Bring to the Party:
- A degree in Business or a related field (Accounting preferred).
- 8+ years of experience in US payroll, ideally with CPP / FPC certification.
- Strong knowledge of US payroll processes and Workday experience is a must.
- Multi-state experience is required, and international payroll knowledge is a big plus.
- Experience with outsourced payroll providers and understanding of basic accounting principles and internal controls.
- Experience with developing, implementing, and executing effective internal controls
- Ability to manage sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
- Knowledge and general understanding of international payroll requirements, processes, and models.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A customer-service mindset, with a proactive approach to solving problems.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables and lookups) and a strong analytical mindset.
- A team player who thrives in a collaborative environment and can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt in a rapidly changing environment.
