Job Summary
The Payroll Administrator is accountable for ensuring that all team members are paid accurately and timely under the direction of the Payroll Supervisor.
Main Responsibilities
- Accurately processes wages for hourly and salaried team members paid on a bi-weekly and semi-monthly basis
- Ensures accuracy of entry by producing and analyzing audit reports and making corrections as necessary prior to submission
- Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and provincial regulations and company policies.
- Responds to government requests as necessary
- Receives and checks, for accuracy and completeness, all documentation pertaining to new hires, employment terminations, salary / wage change recommendations in accordance with company policy and applicable legislation
- Gives direction to managers and staff on ADP Time & Attendance issues and ensures all part time hours are appropriately approved before payroll submission deadlines.
- Ensures that all required approval levels have been obtained. If not, seeks to obtain required approvals prior to processing
- Responsible for the preparation of all monthly, quarterly and / or annual employer related filings
- Works with other Finance Department team members to ensure the timely balancing of monthly and year end general ledger accounts as they relate to the payroll function.
- Maintains records of garnishment notices, family support requirements to pay and other legal matters related to employees and / or payroll
- Ensures that eligible employees are set up with appropriate deductions for group insurance plans and group RRSP plans, as applicable, and ensure all such deductions are remitted timely.
- Ensures that Records of Employment are prepared in prescribed timeframes for employee terminations and leaves, etc.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in business administration or payroll
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (Canadian Payroll Association) is an asset
- At least 1 year of prior payroll experience in a large organization
- Experience with ADP WorkforceNow is a significant asset
- Knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and Ontario Employment Standards Act
- Exceptional proficiency in Excel is required
- Able to work under tight time pressures, independently, with strong organization skills
- Exceptional time management skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness
