Payroll Administrator (California)

Your primary responsibilities will include keeping up-to-date with tax regulations, ensuring compliance, and overseeing payroll, benefits and tax compliance for California employees and regulations.

This is a part-time position (20 hours per week)  and will follow US business working hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify regulatory issues and concerns associated with tax compliance by reviewing contracts, policies, and guidelines of the company for employees based in California. 
  • Ensure our company’s internal processes are compliant with existing California payroll regulations and  tax laws by monitoring tax development at local and national levels
  • Negotiate with tax authorities to resolve tax payment issues and ensure tax filings are submitted within the estimated timelines
  • Provide guidance to the finance, accounting, and operational teams on compliance requirements and applicable tax criteria
  • Advise senior management on compliance risks and tax liabilities regarding our corporate strategies, including emerging laws and trends
  • Monitor compliance training sessions and discussions to ensure internal staff is educated on tax laws, processes, and guidelines  
  • Review income tax returns, monitor tax-deductible expenses, and issue business permits and licenses as and when required
  • Manage and improve internal tax audit capabilities to identify tax exposures and compliance risks before external audits take place
  • Maintain the company’s tax database, update tax rates, and correct data errors to ensure tax filings are accurately processed

Requirements

Must haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of  California specific payroll, benefits and/or Tax Accounting experience
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, financial data,  analytics and California specific benefitss
  • Strong grasp of risk mitigation practices and governance frameworks
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills

Nice to haves

  • Familiarity with startup environments.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite and Microsoft Excel.
  • Possession of a CPA or equivalent relevant accounting certification.
