ABOUT THE ROLE
Shef is looking for a part time HR Generalist (4 hours a day/ 5 days a week or 5 hours a day / 4 days a week) to be the go to person for all things People Operations. We’re a small team of approximately 30 employees and we have a PEO that does most of the heavy lifting as it relates to payroll processing and compliance. Your role will be to manage the PEO relationship and be a point of contact for employee questions related to payroll, benefits and HR policies. As we scale, there is an opportunity for this to become a full time role if that is of interest. We are a hybrid company with small offices in SF and NY. The role can be fully remote given the part time hours but preference will be given to candidates in the bay area. This role reports to the COO.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Managing the employee life-cycle: assisting with recruiting when needed, processing new hires, managing open enrollments, conducting exit interviews and processing terminations - and everything in between.

Payroll: Sequoia One (our PEO) does the heavy lifting in terms of payroll processing but you will make sure managers are approving hours for non-exempt employees, export hours, approve payroll and ensure that everyone is paid correctly and on time. Manage the compensation adjustment and promo process at year end.

Air Traffic Controller: You are the point of contact for all people, compensation and benefit related questions from employees. Benefit and Perk Administration: Work with Sequoia One to renew our health and wellness benefits, manage open enrollment, administer and track usage of our generous perks (work from home stipends, in office benefits, shef product credit and learning and development stipends).
- Compliance: stay up to date on legal requirements, manage and track leaves of absences, make sure our policies are understood and followed, audit employee data in our HRIS system.

Performance Management / Employee Relations: help managers navigate difficult conversations and performance manage employees. Manage the performance review process 2x/ year. Conduct investigations and trainings as necessary. Light administrative duties - logging and distributing mail from our virtual mailbox, planning HQ offsites and team events and helping with the admin or our small SF and New York offices.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3-5+ years of HR experience
- Experience processing payroll
- Understanding of how to work with PEOs - experience with Sequoia One systems is a plus.
- Project Management experience is a plus but not required.
HOURS, LOCATION & COMPENSATION
- Part-time position (20-25 hours per week). 4 hours per day Monday - Friday or 5 hours per day Monday - Thursday; (any hours between 9-3PT)
- Work can be performed remotely; preference to bay area candidates with occasional meetings in SF.
- Compensation is commensurate with experience and location ($40-55/ hour)
