What you can expect to do...
- Employee Relations:
- Act as a point of contact for employee queries and concerns, providing guidance on HR policies and procedures.
- Facilitate Culture Sponsor meetings and programs.
- Design and execute communication regarding events, holidays, and company-related announcements.
- Serve as the main point of contact for all culture-related improvements or employee engagement.
- Manage the eNPS Survey and feedback process.
- Assist in recruiting high-priority roles as needed.
- Assist in event planning and coordination for the annual Penrod Palooza.
- Support employee relations issues, including conducting investigations and providing recommendations.
- Performance Management:
- Assist in administering performance review processes, ensuring timely completion and consistency.
- Support managers in addressing performance-related issues and developing improvement plans.
- Compliance and Record Keeping:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR documentation.
- HR Administration:
- Own the day-to-day administrative functions of the HR department.
- Prepare HR reports and presentations as needed.
- Manage all leave of absence (LOA) programs.
You’ll know you’re successful if you...
- Immediately manage all LOA programs.
- Immediately be able to make recommendations and own Penrod’s compliance with state and federal HR laws.
- Within 1 month, become the primary BambooHR administrator and own all employee records and data.
- Within 1 month, become the primary owner of new hire onboarding, internal communications, and feedback processes.
- Start the HR process and policy project within 1 month and finalize it within 6 months of hire.
- Within 1 month, be able to flex in to assist in recruiting high-priority roles.
- Within 2 months, become the primary subject matter expert and employee contact for all insurance-related inquiries.
- Within 3 months, become the primary benefits administrator, handling enrollments, terminations, reporting, audits, and 2024 open enrollment.
- Employee Relations:
- Resolution time for employee issues (Target: <7 days)
- Employee satisfaction with HR support (Target: ≥85%)
- Improvement in eNPS (Target: >85%)
- Performance Management:
- Completion rate of performance reviews (Target: 100% on time)
- Compliance and Record Keeping:
- Compliance audit score (Target: 100%)
- Accuracy of HR records (Target: 100% error-free)
- HR Administration:
- Timeliness of HR reports and documentation (Target: 100% on time)
- Quality and accuracy of HR reports (Target: 100% error-free)

- Can support a variety of HR needs across multiple states.
- Work effectively with a remote workforce.
- Have SHRM-CP or PHR certification.
- Are highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
- Have experience with the administration of HRIS and related systems.
- Communicate well with others.
- Are resourceful, knowing when/how to ask questions for clarity and when/how to look for answers independently.
- Have excellent time management skills.
- Demonstrate excellence in critical thinking.
- Handle stress and last-minute, urgent requests effectively.
- Are comfortable wearing multiple hats and context switching.

- Are a self-starter with initiative who can prioritize and execute with minimal supervision.
- Have thorough knowledge of employment law at the federal and state levels (multi-state experience preferred).
- Routinely exercise strong judgment within broadly defined policies and practices.
- Think analytically about problems and use data to support recommendations.
- Can research, evaluate, and present strategic solutions to challenges of scaling the organization.

- Have experience helping a company scale up in headcount.
- Have experience with hiring H1B candidates and sponsorship processes.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to write or speak about complicated HR issues.
- Have a solution-oriented approach and desire to work in a team environment.
- Are a team player with a “do what it takes to get the job done” attitude - very resourceful!
- Have experience with payroll and HRIS systems (BambooHR experience is nice but not expected).
- Make sound decisions even in the absence of complete information.
- Pick up new technologies with ease.
Compensation and Benefits
Hourly Pay: $32-38/hour, the entire compensation package to be determined by the candidate’s level, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and alignment with market data.
Hours: Expecting approximately 20 hours/week with flexibility to work up to 30 hours/week on high-demand weeks.
