Arcadis is seeking a Parking Operations Analyst with 2 to 5+ years of experience to join our transportation team. We are actively working to make communities more sustainable by expanding our team with diverse skill sets. Automobile trips begin and end with a parked vehicle. Parking is an essential part of defining the cities of tomorrow. The correct number of parking spaces, the right locations, the technology and connectivity to both users and vehicles, and key policies all play a part in developing strategic parking plans for cities and institutions.
You will play an important role in the full life cycle of projects (conducting analysis, reporting and presentation of findings, client interaction). You will also have the opportunity to contribute to business development, such as proposal preparation, work scope strategy. Our multidisciplinary project teams will provide you with the opportunity to collaborate with a wide variety of professionals including urban planning and design, architecture, placemaking, active transportation, wayfinding, land development, and construction administration.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, demonstrate excellent communication skills, be eager to learn and enjoy working in a fast-paced consulting environment. Strong writing, presentation, and public speaking skills will be of benefit in this position, as there will be frequent interaction with various levels of municipal agencies and the client project teams.
What will you work on?
Typical projects will include parking feasibility studies, parking strategic plans, site plans, land development, traffic calming, and corridor studies including cycle tracks, sidewalks, bus rapid transit, crosswalks, pick-up/drop-off areas, driveways, and roundabouts. Typical tasks include: calculating existing and future parking supply and demand, policy and technology benchmarking and comparisons, parking financial analysis, intersection and corridor operations modelling, such as Synchro capacity-based, Aimsun mesocopic, and VISSIM microscopic software platforms. Additionally you will:
- Coordinate quality control of field data collection, traffic counts and surveys
- Conduct field observations to inform the preparation of land development parking studies and traffic operations
- Compile and interpret data, such as traffic volumes, parking utilization, transportation patterns, pedestrian desire lines, and collision history
- Analyze, interpret, synthesize and visualize data
- Use traffic operations analysis software to study existing operations, forecast traffic patterns/operations, and facilitate conceptual design for new road corridors / intersections from a complete streets perspective
- Review and identify design improvements for land development site plans from a road configuration, site circulation, parking, loading, and road user safety perspective, via drawing mark-ups in either PDF and AutoCAD environments
- Assess existing road conditions and recommending implementable enhancements to achieve client and municipal design goals, with supporting analysis of costs and benefits
- Write technical reports and contribute to proposals including parking feasibility, parking strategic studies, traffic impact studies, traffic calming studies, documenting road design recommendations, applying road design standards
- Communicate and guide the implementation of traffic related design improvements / recommendations to other internal teams and to external client teams
- Research ongoing and evolving industry and municipal best practices
Role Accountabilities:
- Delivering high quality on all technical deliverables
- Using professional judgment to identify and resolve technical problems
- Contributing to client and project success by focusing on improving quality of life and putting sustainability at the core of all you do
- Applying technical analysis, report writing, and other skills to deliver projects on-time and on-budget
- Regular coordination with project managers and team members to align project goals, project progress, and deliverables
- Attending internal and external multidisciplinary project team meetings, site visits, and other meetings, as required.
- At least two years’ professional experience in with focus on transportation engineering elements such as parking supply and demand analysis, traffic operations capacity analysis, and traffic impact studies
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Professional Engineer designation, or eligible for P. Eng. Designation
- Candidates possessing are eligible for Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designations with direct and relevant parking and traffic experience may be considered
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Synchro, ARCADY, Aimsun, VISISM
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoTURN, EMME, considered an asset
- Experience in civil land development, roadway design, parking studies and complete streets is considered an asset
- Familiarity with the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Geometric Design Guide, Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) Books
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with a commitment to excellence and high-quality work
- Proven technical writing skills in English with strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to be flexible and collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team, while maintaining quality work within a fast-paced environment
- Ability to regularly attend client and public meetings in person in the Greater Toronto Area.
