Peak Design is hiring a

Packaging Project Manager

San Francisco, United States
Full-Time
ABOUT US
The purpose of Peak Design is to create happy, meaningful lives for the people that work here. We believe this purpose can only be achieved when self-actualizing, highly stoked people enthusiastically step into (or log onto) the Peak Design office every day. Our purpose and our mission go hand-in-hand and we encourage and celebrate authenticity and the unique perspective each of our employees brings. We’re a close-knit team that thrives on mutual respect and the belief that every voice matters—especially when it’s got something interesting to say.

We make radical, meticulously-engineered gear for detail-obsessed people. Our backpacks, travel bags, camera gear, and phone accessories are used dang-near everywhere. If you’ve visited Machu Picchu, Tokyo, or an REI store in the last 10 years, you’ve been within ogling distance of a Peak Design product.

Alongside our award-winning gear is a brand that truly reflects who we are as people—passionate about design, deeply caring about our environmental and social impact, unafraid to speak up, radically transparent, and generally down to clown. Whether we’re explaining a product, running a sale, launching a nonprofit, sponsoring a film, or razzing the biggest company on Earth, we do it with our trademark honesty, warmth, and wit. Through our products and our brand, we aim to create delight, and leave this world better than how we found it.

ABOUT THE JOB
Packaging is the only piece of the Peak Design brand, beyond the product itself, that every single customer interacts with, and you will be the owner and coordinator of all things packaging for Peak Design. As a member of the Brand Team, you will drive both our strategic vision for what packaging is, and the day-to-day tactical needs in bringing packaging projects to life. You will work closely with the head of brand, design director, and graphic designers in coordinating both that strategic and tactical work.

You will work closely with a number of other teams in bringing packaging to life: Product to know what needs packaging when, Marketing to make sure included product information is accurate and ready, Wholesale to make sure the needs of our hundreds of retailers are met, and CSR to make sure we are constantly challenging ourselves to lessen the environmental footprint of packaging. You will build schedules and make sure deadlines are met, coordinating with the Brand team project manager, our go-to market director, and a number of Product team project managers.

In this role you will be responsible for all packaging of Peak Designs’s many products. This means creating new designs and layouts (or managing vendors designing layouts for us) for net new products and upgrading and maintaining those currently on the market. You are wildly organized with an extreme attention to detail and a desire to create delightful customer experiences.

What You’ll Do:

  • Join our Brand team to help drive the strategic vision for packaging, the most widely-seen brand and messaging touchpoint for our entire business.
  • Help coordinate the resources of our Brand team in designing and laying out the physical construction, graphics, and photography of our packaging.
  • Manage and coordinate our packaging development process and schedule in collaboration with our Product, Brand, Marketing, Wholesale, and CSR teams for new launches and for packaging refreshes on older products.
  • Manage our vendor relationships, domestically and overseas, with a number of packaging manufacturers.
  • Take responsibility to ensure the program milestones are reached on schedule, including costing, sampling, quality evaluation and materials approvals.
  • Maintain accurate specifications for packaging materials and procedures.
  • Own file naming and organizational best practices for packaging collateral.

About You:

  • A passion for creating delightful brand experiences in packaging and bringing complicated projects to life.
  • Strong project and timeline management skills. You are great at planning, scheduling, and re-planning/scheduling. We move fast and nimbly, and value the ability to pivot late in the game.
  • Experience working on fast-moving cross-functional teams.
  • Organized, thorough, detailed and cool under pressure.
  • 3+ years of experience in developing or project managing packaging solutions.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator.
  • You’re able to travel to Asia to visit suppliers 1-3 times per year.
  • You’re local to the San Francisco Bay Area (or willing to relocate for this role) and excited to work out of our office in the Dogpatch neighborhood a minimum of 2-3 days per week.
