POSITION SUMMARY:
A member of the External Affairs Team, the Outreach and Organizing Manager manages community engagement initiatives across the state and oversees the community organizers and outreach specialists. The Manager promotes Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts health services and educational programs, as well as advances Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts’ organizing and electoral work. With a commitment to addressing the impact of racism and other oppressions on sexual health, the person will develop relationships with community leaders and serves as one of the organization's liaisons with various constituents through attendance at community events and coalition meetings. Conducts service overview presentations and meetings with professionals, community members, and potential patients with the goal of growing and diversifying PPLM’s patient and supporter base as well as addressing the larger need for health care access. Working with the Director of Public Affairs, the Outreach Manager will identify and evaluate strategic relationships, new service delivery models, and geographic expansion opportunities. Additionally, this individual will have the management responsibility of the Outreach and Organizing Team and is responsible for providing guidance, growth and direction for the outreach team across the state.

Note: Evening and Weekend Hours Required

Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision and evaluation of the Community Organizers and Outreach Specialists
  • Work with the Community Organizers and Outreach Specialists to build structure and goals around the outreach program across the state including things like realizing contraceptive access points
  • Identify potential community partners who may serve as referral sources for patients seeking health care services and/or recipients of educational programming; community partners may include but are not limited to schools, colleges, nonprofit agencies, youth serving organizations, neighborhood groups, health care organizations, substance use disorder providers, immigrant rights agencies, and employers.
  • Proactively develop relationships with community partners to provide information about PPLM services and strategize opportunities for collaboration through meetings, telephone calls and email; collaboration may include but not limited to bi-directional referrals, implementation of programs, and inclusion in PPLM’s Counseling and Referral database.
  • Manage programmatic outcomes and functions for the Patient Advocacy (Speakers Bureau), Black Organizing, Youth Organizing (PPGeneration/PPGenAction), Latinx Organizing (Raíz), and State Fights (PACE) programs with the development and submission of grant proposals, workplans, budgets and reports with established completion dates.
  • Manage coalition partner engagement and volunteer mobilization with regional organizers that furthers PPAF’s communications and marketing, legislative and electoral goals.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Public Affairs to supervise and lead electoral programming with the regional organizers to include canvassing, phone banking, engaging with electoral volunteers and supporters, and working with the Communications and Marketing Team on digital organizing efforts.
  • Supervise organizing programming implementation with regional organizers.
  • Schedule, confirm, and implement service overview presentations at community partner locations to provide information about PPLM health care services and educational programs as needed.
  • Schedule, confirm, and host information tables at health fairs, conferences, and community events.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with community partners through ongoing outreach and communication about new services, marketing campaigns, new materials, and upcoming events.
  • Review and assess marketing/demographics/utilization/trend data and make recommendations regarding new service opportunities including geographic expansion and delivery of care models.
  • Participate in and provide managerial guidance for PPLM’s Strategic Health Equity Initiatives.
  • Collaborate with operations, clinical and financial team members to develop referral partnerships and off-site care delivery models such as telehealth, contraceptive access points, etc.
  • Track all community relations activities, including demographic information, in Contact Management database and provide periodic reports as required by grantors and quarterly goal targets. Additionally, this person would support their team of Community Outreach Specialists in doing the same.
  • Participate in department meetings, PPLM trainings, and other internal and external professional development opportunities as requested
  • Work in partnership with Health Services and External Affairs to identify cross-departmental opportunities for community outreach and relationship building.
  • Travel to other PPLM sites for meetings including Boston, Worcester, and Springfield Health Centers, and to community outreach sites
  • Complete other tasks and responsibilities as needed
  • Data management of teams they oversee. Will need to be onboarded within the national data management program. 

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS preferred
  • Spanish language (written and spoken), a plus
  • 3-5 years of managerial experience
  • Access to car; valid driver’s license
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows applications
  • Prior experience in and knowledge of sexual health
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people of different races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, ages, abilities, and experiences
  • Deep understanding of institutional and structural racism and their impact on underserved communities
  • Ability and willingness to travel to workshop, meeting, and training sites
  • Experience with recruiting and training volunteers.
  • Demonstrated program management skills, including a program’s budget and grant management and reporting.
  • Familiarity with relevant community organizations/agencies in targeted geographic area
  • Demonstrated success with a range of audiences
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Ability to work independently while committed to overall team approach

Roles that are denoted as Hybrid require 1 day per week in the office unless the role is denoted as onsite, which requires working onsite full time or 5 days per week.
