DESCRIPTION
Janes is seeking an OSINT Force Monitoring (OFM) Analyst to join its Military Intelligence Team. The Military Intelligence Team provides comprehensive and connected data on the world's military forces while the OFM Team specifically monitors Russian military forces. The OFM Team also works closely with the Military Events Team monitoring the military activity of other countries. All of these outputs are used by the wider Janes Research, Data and Analysis team and Janes customers for reference and data-driven insight.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE AT JANES
• Support OFM by tracking Russian military activity and linking that activity to Russian military installations, units, and equipment.
• Work with OFM Team colleagues to produce reports covering Russian military activity, including monitoring of the war in Ukraine.
• Collaborate with and directly support the Military Events Team as needed to cover other actors and areas of interest
• When requested, deliver data-driven insight and analysis for Janes products and customers on deadline.
Requirements
THE IDEAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE FOR THIS ROLE
• Excellent English writing and communication skills.
• Bachelors or Masters degree in international affairs, defence and security studies, or similar.
• Knowledge of military assets/platforms/doctrines/procedures, with military service or defence analyst experience beneficial.
• Open-source intelligence research skills, including familiarity with social media and imagery intelligence.
• Comfortable maintaining structured data.
• Able to undertake analysis with great attention to detail and critical thinking.
• Able to work independently as well as in highly collaborative environment.
• Able to manage time, prioritize information, and work under pressure.
• Some proficiency in Russian and/or Chinese language beneficial.
• Technical skills in Python, data visualisation, and GIS beneficial.
